Common eye diseases in cats

Eyes for a cat give her the opportunity to receive basic information about the world around him. They are a unique and rather complex system. The cat's field of view is more than 180 degrees. The sharpness of her vision exceeds the human six times, which allows the cat to clearly distinguish objects at a distance of one hundred meters. Do not forget about the ability to see almost complete darkness.

But, unfortunately, eye diseases in cats are not uncommon. One of the most common diseases is trauma, which the animals receive as a result of disassembly. They are very dangerous, because under the cat's claws live chlamydia, which through the lesions easily penetrate into the depth of the tissue. In some cases, even timely access to specialists does not help. If the infection has penetrated deeply into the corneal tissue, then a serious disease such as panophthalmitis may occur, when the eye practically turns into an abscess. In this case, the removal of the eye can not be avoided, it is good that this does not happen very often.

Diseases in the eyes of cats are sometimes associated with the peculiarity of the breed. So the Persians often have corneal ulcers. Because of its anatomical features, the cornea is content with loose and the eyelids do not close up completely, so the tear can not completely wash the cornea. As a result, ulcers appear, which are closed by a substance that is in tears-epinephrine and the necrosis (sequestration) of the cornea. It looks like a brown stain that grows into the cornea.

The most common eye diseases of cats are conjunctivitis, which can be viral, infectious and allergic. When treating this disease, it is important to establish the cause of its occurrence. It is necessary to appoint the right treatment. The disease is contagious, so if there are other animals in the house, the sick cat should be isolated. Do not forget about personal hygiene - you need to wash your hands very carefully after contact with the diseased animal.

Often in cats, there is a turning of the eyelids - when its edges are wrapped inside. Sometimes there is an eversion, when the eyelid turns outward. In this case, the animal often frowns, the conjunctiva becomes red, and strong lacrimation is observed. Such eye diseases in cats can be congenital or occur as a result of a burn or injury.

Some eye diseases of cats can be easily cured at home. For example, if there is a grain of sand or a small object in the eye, it is often enough to wash it with boiled water or strong tea, of course, not hot. But basically, if there are eye diseases in cats - treatment should appoint a veterinarian. Self-treatment without a correctly diagnosed diagnosis can lead to disastrous results. You not only will not help your pet, but, probably, will cause serious harm to his health. Often, the owner, having begun independent treatment, having seen that there has come a significant improvement, stops it. But it turns out that the disease continued to progress, only in a latent form. And when suddenly sudden sharp deterioration occurs, it happens that even good specialists can not help.

To treat cats, veterinarians prescribe eye drops, antihistamines and antiviral drugs and antibiotics that are applied topically. If the disease is severe, tablets and injections are prescribed. In some cases, eye diseases in cats are treated surgically. This is necessary if a cataract or glaucoma is detected, serious injuries due to injuries, etc. Sometimes microsurgical interventions are performed. To prevent eye diseases, proper care and limited contact with sick animals, especially stray animals, is necessary.
