Kurzhaar: a description of the breed from Germany

There are so many types of hunting dogs in the world that it is sometimes difficult for even an experienced specialist to understand this diversity. Indeed, it is difficult to be sure of the correct choice of a reliable assistant. However, there are dogs, whose reputation and "professionalism" are checked by years of their impeccable service to man. First of all, this is a magnificent hunting breed kurtshaar.

This name in German means "short-haired". The ancestors of these intelligent animals were Spanish and German shorthaired short-haired, who were crossed with pointer. In different countries this breed is called "German Shorthair" (it is called in Russia) or "short-haired German Pointer". In Germany, in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine, the standard kurtshaar was adopted. Description of the breed appeared after its official approval. The international standard appeared only 33 years later, in 1912.

After the war kurtshaar began its triumphal march through Europe. After a while, he finds himself in the United States, where he acquires unprecedented popularity - in 1955 there were more than 15,000 kurtshaar dogs in the country. Description of the breed was published in all the guides for professional dog handlers and in magazines for dog lovers. It was in America that he began to be called a "master of all trades" for his amazing versatility and ability to adapt to the most diverse types of hunting. Particularly admired was his ability to cope with his "professional" duties in a climate of severe climate and complex terrain.

Russian hunters got acquainted with the dog kurtshaar, a description of the breed which was already known to many, at the beginning of the twentieth century. For the sake of justice, I must say that she did not receive such high-profile fame as in the US in our country. There are different opinions about this phenomenon. Some experts believe that the reason for this - the importation of a large number of animals without a pedigree. Naturally, their hunting qualities were somewhat "erased", rather than their pedigreed brethren. But the majority of dog breed experts believe that kurtshaar could not stand competition with other (very popular) breeds (pointer) in Russia.

Used only as a hunting dog kurtshaar (the breed's description confirms it) was never divorced for exhibition activities. This is a hunter in its pure form. He has his own method of work for every kind of game. If suddenly the object of fishing changes, the animal is instantly rebuilt.

Kurzhaar has a muscular, harmoniously built body. Its height at the withers is 64 centimeters, the weight does not exceed 32 kilograms. The short and thick wool of these animals is usually painted in all shades of brown. He quickly and easily learns. Puppies kurtzhaara, photos of which you can see in this article, develop quite quickly. Such a dog is ideal for beginner hunters. If an inexperienced master does not know what to do in any given situation, the four-legged companion will tell him the way out.
