Clutch end. Purpose, design and installation technology

The end clutch is designed for mounting on three-core cables with plastic or oil-impregnated paper insulation. It reliably protects cable power lines from moisture, dampness, solar radiation, conductive dust, chemically aggressive substances and media, from a variety of negative atmospheric influences.

Unlike the connecting, the end clutch is used only in the open air. Today, there is a huge variety of models of such devices, the application of which depends mainly on the design of the cable, its characteristics and operating conditions. For example, end-shrinkable end-of-pipe couplings KNTp are designed for cables with AC voltage up to ten kW. Such devices have high tightness, good mechanical and thermal strength, have a low cost.

For installation on cable lines with a voltage of up to one kW, a coupling model PKNT-1 kV is used. Devices of this design have excellent thermal insulation properties and resistance to ultraviolet radiation. The end clutch, depending on its purpose, can have a steel, aluminum or cast iron casing.

Separated cable cores are insulated with tubes made of a material resistant to unfavorable environmental influences. The cutting root is equipped with a hot-melt cone filler, which serves to equalize the electric field strength, it is insulated with a special glove.

When installing this product, the terminals of the power cable are fitted with contact disengaging screws. The tips are carefully insulated, and their connection to the ground conductor is done by soldering. In order to protect the spine from splitting, a special spacer is installed on it. Depending on the design of the cable, the end clutch is equipped with phase insulators, calculated per pair for each conductor.

Structurally, the cable end clutch consists of a casing, gloves with a hot melt glue applied on its surface, heat-shrinkable tubing for the insulation of cable cores and cuffs. Also in the delivery set of the device is the armature intended for connecting the grounding wire, and the tips with bolt heads are of a disruptive type.

Before starting the installation, the dimensions of the coupling are carefully checked. Particular attention should be paid to the location of the outer insulator heads with respect to the front surface of the housing. This is largely due to the installation technology. The location of the heads must correspond to the contacts of the cable to be connected. After this check, the gland is removed from the coupling housing, the necessary slot is selected in it, the diameter of which corresponds to the thickness of the cable being inserted.

In the openings of the housing are inserted nozzles, which are then pushed onto the cable cores. The extreme veins are carefully bent, then inserted into the corresponding slots of the body. The body itself should be moved in such a way that the middle vein leaves it approximately 280 mm apart. Further, in full accordance with the requirements of the technology specified in the accompanying technical documentation of the product, it is necessary to begin assembling the contact heads and the end insulators on the housing. Finally, the terminal ends are connected to the contact buses of the insulator heads, after which they are securely fixed with bolts.
