Circus in St. Petersburg: the first stationary circus in Russia

It is accepted that in any regional city in Russia there is always a circus. If there was no permanently operating with its building, every summer for the entire warm period a captain came. The circus is one of the most beloved circuses in all times.

The most deserved

The northern capital is a very large city. Naturally, the circus in St. Petersburg is not alone. And a review of these spectacular institutions should start with the largest, which is a bright feature of the city. The Great St. Petersburg State Circus on the Fontanka River is its full name. One of the most important indicators of uniqueness is that in the huge Russia the building of this circus became the first stone stationary profile structure. The circus in St. Petersburg existed before, but in a wooden structure that was built in 1867 on the Manege Square. In 1875 (it is clear that this circus on the Fontanka is the oldest) the Italian Gaetano Ciniselli, whose life belonged to this art form completely, received permission from the tsarist government to build a permanent circus.

Christmas story

Already in 1877, on December 26, just before the New Year, the city received as a gift its fairy tale. On the territory of the Engineering Square, near the Mikhailovsky Castle, more precisely its southern facade, on the site of the former, not long existed one more circus, was erected a new project by VA Kenel. Earlier, the wooden building in this place belonged to Turner Circus in 1827, but in 1828 it was converted to theatrical productions. The new stone palace, which received the circus in St. Petersburg, was built in accordance with all the achievements of advanced engineering thought and was a specialized (taking into account all requirements of this art), a unique technical structure.

Amazing settings

The principles of construction of such buildings, first applied in the northern capital, were for many years the basis for erecting circus structures around the world. Innovative was everything - the height of the dome at 49.7 m, its original support by internal columns, a ribbed roof set reminiscent of an overturned cup - everything was the newest word in the technique of building similar institutions. The new circus in St. Petersburg met the city's requests for spectacles - 1500 seats in the stalls were complemented by spacious galleries. As a result, the show could simultaneously be viewed by up to 5000 people. For the city, its discovery, of course, was an event. The building was quite majestic and was not inferior to the interior decoration and appearance of the famous imperial theaters. "Circus Ciniselli" - this was the name of this miracle until 1919.

Favorite and visited at all times

Then came the times of the State Circus. And in those years he remained the favorite townspeople, as before the revolution. In Soviet times, the building was repaired, but, allegedly, not very well - the acoustics of the hall worsened, the load on the dome increased. In 2003-2004, the facade was renovated. And in the autumn of 2014 the circus on the Fontanka stood on the long-awaited reconstruction, which should end by November 2015. Fans and employees place great hopes on it - the mistakes made before should be completely eliminated, and the circus needs to return its historical appearance. However, the collective does not stand idle, but has prepared for the opening of a new season in a temporary chapel building. "Big St. Petersburg" will receive spectators in the park Esenina, near the metro station "Street Dybenko."

"Shapito" remains with us

For many centuries the circus was a moving place. They waited for him, they were sad when he left, and the playground was empty (how much about this written and filmed films). In place of Russian buffoons gradually came "cap", and the circus on wheels began to be so called. The Shapito is a canvas or canvas tent, stretched over prefabricated structures. There is also such a circus in St. Petersburg. Avtovo is a historical district in the south-west of the city. Known from the pre-Petrine times, it is on the map of 1699 under the name of Autova village. In 1985, the circus tent "Mayak" settled here, which used to throw its tent in front of Victory Park for several years. But on this site it was decided to build the Russian National Library, and the circus went to another district forever and became known as his "French Circus Avtovo". A tremendous preparatory work was carried out, as a result of which a completely new circus-stationary model appeared. The unmistakably chosen French firm Lucien-Walter built a unique state-of-the-art building that meets all the requirements of circus art. The circus tent in St. Petersburg became another of its attractions. Elegant tent seamlessly blended into the landscape of the northern capital. It is unique in everything - both design and layout. The townspeople loved this unusual building, opened in 1995.

New trends

In the famous city there is another curiosity, becoming more and more popular all over the world, known as the Uppsala Circus in St. Petersburg. In capitals and megacities, amazingly shocking things and phenomena always arise. The circus itself invented the name with a hint of its "hooligan" essence - from the stubby word "ups" and circus - "ala." They also position themselves as a hooligan circus, although they have long been professionals with very good earnings. The project was incredibly successful. But the "hooligan" style is maintained in everything. This mixture of buffoonery and street theater originated simultaneously with the submission of the German Astrid Shorn, who found a like-minded person in the person of Larisa Afanasyeva. Their pain and concern were difficult teenagers, street children. With the aim of adapting them to society, the idea arose to use adventurous inclinations and childish spontaneity, and on this basis to create a kind of show where everything will be - theatrical performance, acrobatics and pantomime. Everything worked out. This circus is very in demand, it takes part in international competitions and wins in them. Performances that have a pronounced individual character are always sold out. This circus is unlike the rest, and so good. It has its own building, located at: Sverdlovskaya embankment, 44. The full name is "Uppsala Circus, Ano".
