Causes of low back pain in men. Prevention, treatment

Feelings of discomfort in the back are familiar to almost every one of us. It is enough to sit or work inconveniently for a short time, so that painful sensations appear in the lumbar region.

Lower back pains in men often have their bases and can serve as the first signal of the onset of a serious illness that needs to be treated. The specialist's answer after the diagnosis to the question of why such pains appear is the first step towards a productive treatment.

Pain in the spine - what is it?

Painful sensations in the lumbosacral can occur throughout life in about 75% of all inhabitants of the globe. Moreover, the average age of the disease decreases every year, and is currently 40-45 years. In medical practice, cases of complaints from adolescents and even children are known, that the muscles of the lower back hurt.

Lumbago, osteochondrosis, radiculitis often cause a temporary loss of a person's ability to work. They affect the condition of the spine as a whole, and also can be localized in any part of the human body.

Why do pains appear in the lower back?

Constant chronic or sudden acute pain is the result of various diseases that can occur in both men and women. In some cases, pain in the spine may be a sign of stress, obesity, or a mental disorder.

Pain in the sacrum and lower back of men develop:

  • With bone pathology;
  • Various changes in the periarticular tissues, muscles, nerve trunks;
  • Disorders in the articular part of the spine.

A prerequisite for developing painful sensations in the back is a sedentary lifestyle. Long-term immobility leads to a decrease in the stability of the waist.

Causes of lower back pain in men

Pain sensations in the lumbosacral department are currently considered the most frequent syndrome among representatives of the strong half of humanity. These problems are associated with constant stress on the spine, with sedentary work or, conversely, with heavy physical labor.

The causes of back pain in men are as follows:

  • overweight;
  • Long stay behind the wheel or work at the computer;
  • Performance of sitting (office workers) or standing (sellers, hairdressers) work;
  • Various injuries and untrained movements;
  • Work, which is associated with constant physical labor;
  • Power loads in the gym;
  • Long stay and work in the cold or draft.

If a man has a low backache, the doctor can diagnose the onset of the disease.

Diseases that cause back pain

Here are some examples of the most common diseases that cause pain in the back:

  • Stretching - the cause of this condition may be weight lifting or weakness of the widest back muscles;
  • Protrusion - protrusion of the intervertebral discs, because of what they begin to press on the nerve roots (this pathology occurs only with increased physical activity);
  • Metastasis - the spread of malignant neoplasms of the male genital organs, often appears in men over 50;
  • Fracture occurs when falling from a high altitude or with a strong impact received in the back area, the most serious injury is a fracture of the spine,
  • Infringement of nerve roots in the intervertebral canal;
  • Pain that is given in the lower back can be a signal about diseases of the prostate, kidney, liver or stomach;
  • Bechterew's disease is marked by decreased mobility (especially in the morning hours) and chest volume during breathing, provokes curvature of the spine in the region of the breast;
  • Osteomyelitis - constant pain in the back;
  • Dystrophic changes in the lumbar vertebrae further lead to bone growth;
  • Spinal cord tumors have neurological symptoms.

Almost always the pain that is localized in the back area is the response of the body to abnormal processes in it.

Diagnostics

Often, doctors hear at the reception from patients "Backache in the back, what to do?". As we already mentioned, there are a lot of different reasons that lead to back pain. Therefore, for differential diagnosis of diseases that have similar symptoms, additional medical research is conducted:

  • Computer tomography reveals changes in the spine and surrounding tissues, which can be associated with injuries, fractures, tumors, infections;
  • X-ray is performed for the diagnosis of osteochondrosis, osteoarthritis, vertebral defects, reveals the presence of malignant neoplasms, osteomyelitis, pathology in vertebrae;
  • Magnetic resonance imaging provides an opportunity to assess the state of the spinal cord and determine the cause of pain in the back;
  • Myelography is performed to detect pathological processes in the muscles and to study the spinal cord, xenon is injected into the contrast, and then a survey is performed (if the primary data is unclear, the radionuclide scan is performed).

The causes of back pain in men are varied, but there is no need to start the diagnosis with X-rays and computed tomography due to the insecurity of these methods. They do it only if there is a suspicion of a fracture of the spine.

In addition to carrying out these studies, the doctor conducts a preliminary diagnosis of the patient:

  • Collection of anamnesis - questions are asked about the onset and features of the course of the disease;
  • General examination - feeling and visual inspection of the spine, determination of mobility;
  • Analysis of complaints - what kinds of pain are there, how often occur, where in the back;
  • The analysis of blood and urine for the detection of pathology of the kidneys or inflammatory processes in the body.

For a more complete examination, the patient is referred for advice to other doctors: rheumatologist, orthopedist, neurologist. Primary information about back pain can be used when describing painful sensations at a doctor-neurologist.

Symptoms

Causes of back pain in men - lesions of peripheral nerve endings, which have both sensitive and motor fibers. This means that painful symptoms are accompanied by a disruption of the function that regulates movement, that is, pain and impairment of mobility are interrelated.

Symptoms that are typical for back pain are divided according to the reasons:

  • Stretching - have the nature of spasms, make it difficult for the muscles to move in the lumbar region, irradiate to the lower part of the body;
  • Damage to the nerve roots - pain spreads to the legs (sometimes both), numbness occurs, the presence of crawling sensation (with a cough or sneezing, the pain becomes stronger);
  • Various diseases - with osteochondrosis, radiculitis painful manifestations increase gradually, can not pass for a long time.

It is necessary to remember: if the back hurts more than 3 days, the cause can be established only by the doctor, therefore, it is not necessary to delay the treatment with a medical institution.

Back pain on the right side of the male indicates the presence of pathology in the locomotor apparatus or diseases in the internal organs located in this area.

Types of pain in the lumbar region

The intensity of pain symptoms can be seen in the study:

  • Skin - clearly visible sweating;
  • Heart - heart palpitations;
  • Body temperature - febrile state;
  • Eye - dilated pupils.

In terms of its location, the pain can be:

  • Local - the source is located in the lumbar region;
  • Reflected - pathological pain symptom begins far from the painful place;
  • Irradiating - the pain impulse enters the back region along the branches of the nerves.

Actions for back pain

Do you often have a backache? What to do to improve the condition?

1. If the causes of the pain are unknown, you need to measure the temperature to detect infection, the inflammatory process, to determine the presence of accompanying symptoms: vomiting, stomach upset. Call a doctor to find out the cause of back pain in men.

2. If there is a bruise, stretching, you need to take anti-inflammatory drugs, which will help to ease pain and relieve inflammation. To reduce edema and increase fluid circulation at the site of damage, take a diuretic. Drag the back area for fixation. Get a specialist consultation.

In the presence of pain, you need to see a doctor in the following cases:

  • Presence of oncology;
  • Painful sensations already were earlier;
  • Combination of pain with incontinence of urine and feces;
  • Duration is more than 3 days;
  • Pain arose as a result of trauma;
  • Intensive weight loss.

Low back pain in men: treatment

After the diagnosis is made, the patient is prescribed medications (pills, injections) that will help reduce pain, restore the nerve tissue and blood circulation. Also facilitates the state of local therapy (warming, analgesic and anti-inflammatory gels, ointments).

Surgical intervention will be required, for example, with a herniated intervertebral disk as a consequence of osteochondrosis. Or in the presence of a purulent focus in the spine.

In some cases, the patient will be recommended wearing a corset (bandage) to reduce the burden on the spine. After the disappearance of attacks of acute pain, the patient will be prescribed physiotherapy, therapeutic exercises or massage.

Most people who started treatment feel better in a week. After 5-6 weeks of pain completely disappear.

Prevention of disease

To prevent back pain, you need:

  • To carry out treatment of the underlying disease;
  • Exclude injuries, hypothermia, physical overload;
  • Have a correct posture;
  • Avoid the appearance of excess weight;
  • Regularly engage in gymnastics to strengthen the muscles of the back;
  • Properly arrange a working, sleeping place to exclude the wrong position of the spine, at which the curvature occurs.

It should be remembered that if there were pains in the back, the cause can only be revealed by the doctor. Entrust your health to a specialist, and all problems will be solved.
