Building a cottage toilet with our own hands

Every lucky owner of a country house knows that not a single dacha can do without a toilet, which is traditionally represented by a small wooden structure in the yard. Before proceeding to direct construction, it is necessary to carefully choose the location for this object.

The cottage toilet should be located in a secluded place, without disturbing the appearance of the site, but too far from the house it should not be located. Sanitary and hygienic standards require that the toilet is located at a distance from any source of water, which is not less than 30 meters. That is why the question of how to make a country toilet and not spoil the water to ourselves and neighbors, remains quite critical.

In order to slightly facilitate the process of choosing the most suitable place, you can do the following:

1. First, you need to draw a plan for your site and surrounding areas.

2. Mark on the plan the location of the neighboring wells or wells, as well as the existing toilets.

3. Calculate according to the plan the places on your site, on which the country toilet can be located. Choose the most secluded of them.

4. Particularly important point. It is necessary to immediately receive a receipt from each neighbor. It should be indicated that they do not object to the construction of your toilet.

5. Next, choose the design of the cottage toilet and make a list of necessary materials.

Based on the materials that were used, the country toilets are divided into stone (of brick or foam blocks), boards (from wooden boards and bars), as well as wireframes. The foundation must be built for any toilet, except for the boardwalk. Therefore, the structure of board shields is considered cheaper and simpler.

In any dacha toilet the most important part is the cesspool. Its volume should be calculated at 60 liters per person with a permanent residence for three months. However, simply burying the barrel is not enough. It is required to think through the system of its cleaning, and also to ensure its absolute tightness. Otherwise, if contamination of aquifers occurs, you will be criminally liable. Therefore, it is necessary to arrange the so-called clay lock in advance around the container of the cesspool, the thickness of which should be 15-30 cm.

So, all the preparatory work has been carried out and theoretical questions have been considered. We are building a summer cottage!

As mentioned earlier, it is simplest to construct the required construction from a tree. We will consider this variant.

First you need to prepare logs of dry wood section 40 × 40 or 50 × 50 mm. Also it is required to purchase material, which will be sheathed in the country toilet. This can be edged board, lining or block house.

To cover the roof using slate, ondulin or soft roof. First, place the cesspool. Above it is built the lower wooden frame, under which the roofing material is laid.

We lining the floor with dry boards using self-tapping screws.

Next, the skeleton of walls and ceiling is assembled. Over the cesspool we make a place for sitting, the so-called pedestal, 45 cm high.

We sew the framework with prepared material. We lay the roof. We mount the door, handles and toilet seat.
