Beautiful clematis, planting and care

Twenty years ago clematis was rare in our gardens. This curly and abundantly flowering plant, with large and bright flowers, was the object of the desires of many gardeners. Sprouts, shoots, seeds were brought from "distant countries". But the clematis, landing and care of which were not well known, had a hard time getting accustomed to the northern climatic zone. Currently, a lot of zoned varieties have been bred, and it is not difficult to choose the most suitable ones. Clematis - beautiful decorators, their garlands help solve many problems of gardeners and gardeners: hide farm buildings, decorate an old bath, zadekorivat lopsided fence. But the utilitarian properties of clematis are not the main thing. Their beauty is self-important in itself. The gardeners are popular with large-colored varieties, but small-flowered species are very effective in vertical gardening.

Choice of a place for planting.

Planting clematis begins with choosing a place. First of all, it must be protected from winds. These lianas need a lot of light, but places that are illuminated by the sun all day are unsuitable for them. Direct solar lighting is possible only for 3-4 hours: clematis poorly tolerate overheating of the soil. This should be remembered when planning the installation of decorative structures: pyramids, flooring, obelisks. For planting flowers near walls or high, solid fences, one should choose the eastern, south-eastern, western and south-western sides. On sites with an elevated relief, planting lianas is better on the slopes, on the leeward side.

Agrotechnical requirements for growing conditions.

Clematis requires light, fertile, well drained soil. If planting is planned in the spring, organic fertilizers (humus, compost) should be placed in autumn in the dug up land, and in the spring, add mineral fertilizers in necessary quantities. Before planting in acidic soil, lime should be added, for looseness, if necessary, sand.

Planting clematis.

The flowers are propagated, as a rule, by rooted cuttings and biennial plants. Optimal, clematis, planting and care for which requires constant attention, with a row layout planted at a distance of not less than 50-60 cm from each other, for lianas with large flowers - up to 1 meter.

Planting pits are excavated in the size 50h50h50sm, for a better water regime and aeration of the roots, drainage is done - fine gravel is poured onto the bottom of the pit to a third of the depth. Immediately before planting, humus is applied (approximately 5 kg per plant) and wood ash (100 g). The root neck of the shoot or the cuttings is buried in the soil for 5-10 cm, depending on the age of the plant.

Planted plant abundantly watered, sprinkled with mulch.

Cultivation of clematis from seeds.

The vegetative mode of reproduction is most common, but in some cases gardeners grow lomons (another name for these flowers) from seeds. Used for this and collected in the fall in their own gardens, and purchased in seed centers.

Seedlings are possible both in seedlings and in direct sowing in open ground. To obtain seedlings in the middle of March, the seeds are sown in a box with fertile loose soil, sprinkled with soil and watered abundantly. Crops are covered with a film, but the box is regularly ventilated before emergence. Delicate, weak shoots appear after two weeks. Spraying with water - the main care for them until the first leaflets. When a second leaf appears, the sprout is plucked. Plant seedlings in the soil should be in late May. Young clematis sprouts are always smaller than biennial shoots and cuttings, therefore it is recommended to lower the soil level in the planting pit by several centimeters, and the root neck to be cut by one to two centimeters. After planting the seedlings are abundantly watered, sprinkled with mulch and shaded. After 15 days, the sprouts are fed with a universal fertilizer.

Planting of clematis seeds of large and medium varieties is performed under winter, small seeds are sown in March April. Depending on the variety, the seed material retains the germination capacity from 1 to 4 years, but the older the seeds, the weaker they are.

Before planting seeds in the open ground, they soak them for 24 hours, sow to the depth from the calculation of the diameter of the seed - 2-3 diameters, roll up. Fertilize with special fertilizers for flower crops. No matter how clematis are multiplied, planting and caring for them is the same.

Clematis care.

Clematis care consists in timely watering (once per decade) and fertilizing, weeding, loosening and mulching the soil, attaching to the supports, pruning and pre-wintering of the shelter. The last two points are especially important.

The methods of pruning are dependent on the group to which the particular clematis belongs. Some of them grow without pruning, but before winter, almost all varieties require shelter. The abundance and duration of flowering vines depend on correct and regular care.

Clematis, planting and care for which are carried out in accordance with all requirements, for many years please their owners.
