Automatic "Val" - silent weapon for the scout

The machine "Val" was designed specifically for special units of the USSR in the Central Research Institute of Tochmash in Klimovsk. The purpose of its creation is to obtain small arms that fire noiselessly and without a flame.

The development of Soviet models of noiseless weapons at that time was mainly in three ways. The first is the use of devices that provide a noiseless and flameless shooting together with standard weapons, the second is the improvement of the standard model and the installation of a muffler on it. The Val machine is a product of the third direction, the concept of which is the creation of fundamentally new guns and ammunition. Because of the contradictions between various departments, the creation of noiseless weapons was dragged out until the mid-eighties ready. The Val machine appeared two years after the requirements for the sniper rifle were agreed upon, on the basis of which it was created.

However, the delayed timing had a positive effect on the characteristics of silent automatic weapons, as one of the technical reasons for the late approval of the TTZ (tactical and technical task) was the increased requirements for the striking ability. These requirements were completely answered by Val. The machine became an instrument capable of ensuring the defeat of people dressed in body armor from a distance of 400 m, while developing the same rifle, it was only a person protected by an army helmet. As a result of the reconciliation, the sniper rifle was reworked for a new ammunition 9x39 mm, and based on it 6P30 (Val) was developed.

Silent automatic machine "Val" is designed on the basis of a gas automatic control system, which has a long working stroke of the gas piston. The piston itself is located above the barrel and is firmly connected to the shutter frame. The gun is equipped with a shock-trigger mechanism of the impact type. Locking the barrel is carried out by the rotary bolt for cutouts in the receiver, which is made by milling. This method of manufacturing the box increased its rigidity, but at the same time increased the cost of the tool. For uniform removal of gases the machine "Val" in the walls of the trunk has four rows of inclined holes. At the same time, some of the gases go into the chamber of the silencer of the gun while the bullet is moving along the trunk. From corrosion, the steel parts of the machine are protected by bluing.

The muffler on the barrel is fixed with the help of dry protrusions and latch in combination with the spring on the muzzle of the trunk. The separator in the muffler body is fixed with a latch. For aiming can be used as the main open sight (sector, mechanical, adjustable in height) on the body of the muffler, and night sight. The application of the "Val" folding tubular. The forehead, pistol grip and shops are made of plastic.

Cartridges are used special subsonic, of two types. The cartridge SP-5 has a steel core, cartridge SP-6 (armor-piercing) - increased core of hardened steel. The first cartridge per 100 m punches a sheet of steel 6 mm, the second - 8 mm. Armor-piercing cartridge has the potential to disable not only manpower, but lightly armored equipment. To transport the machine, a special case is used, in which it is disassembled. Its assembly with a person who has training, takes no more than a minute.
