Andreevsky Bridge: history

In 1905-1907 in Luzhniki on the project of architects L. Proskuryakov and A. Pomerantseva was built Andreevsky Bridge.

It was built on the thirty-fifth kilometer of the circuit route, planning as a railroad crossing.

In the beginning, this bridge was named Sergievsky, in honor of Prince Sergei, the governor of Moscow, who was killed, and already in the early 1920s he was renamed in honor of St. Andrew's Church, which is nearby.

Andreevsky Bridge served in its place for almost a century, during this time was repeatedly repaired and rebuilt, but in the late 90's ceased to meet the security requirements.

In the late 90's, the throughput of this bridge fell sharply, and the speed of the formulations was limited. In addition, the Andreevsky Bridge interfered with the electrification of the railway tracks, which, in turn, hampered the reconstruction of the entire highway.

Moscow needed another, new, bridge, and it was clear to everyone, but the old decided to still preserve it as a model of architecture and a monument of engineering.

Its central arch weighing 1,500 tons was removed from the poles and moved downstream, to the Gorky Park. Preparation of this process took eleven months. For 8 days for the ships, the Moscow-river passage was blocked, although the towing took only two hours.

In the old place it was decided to build two new ones: an automobile bridge and a railway bridge. Builders had to extend the Andreevsky Bridge: the Moscow River in this mette exceeded the width of the bridge span by 90 meters in width. Therefore, two reinforced concrete arched spans were added.

From the side of the Neskuchny Garden, a two-hundred-meter flyover was built, stretching from Lenin Avenue to Pushkinskaya Embankment, and on the other hand, from Frunzenskaya, an indoor lobby was built, passing into an escalator gallery.

A monument of engineering art and architecture, Andreevsky Bridge, though partially, but was preserved. And now on this renovated ferry you can see the century-old openwork arch stretching for 140 meters, stone supports with "shishechkami" and shore spans.

The pre-revolutionary and new parts of this structure are painted in different colors and contrast favorably.

Andreevsky bridge from a distance looks like a big steamer, on which you can walk both on the open deck and under a glass canopy. One is sad on this ship - there are not one benches along its entire length, therefore one should admire the surrounding panorama of Moscow standing.

To look from the Andreevsky bridge there is something: a majestic view of the church of Christ opens, almost all the towers of the Kremlin, many high-rise buildings, a look upstream immediately stops at the Andreevsky Monastery, Moscow State University and the new building of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In the alignment of this unique bridge you can see the Shukhov Tower.

To date, Andreevsky Bridge, its pedestrian part, has become a favorite place for meetings of Moscow creative youth. Here comes a huge number of tourists, especially in the evenings. Those who saw the bridge in the light of night lights, unanimously assert that it looks unforgettable.
