Access to a remote computer via the Internet. TeamViewer and built-in tools

A very convenient tool for diagnosing and configuring computers from a distance is remote access. Previously, it was used only by system administrators and people of other professions related to the IT world. Today utilities for working with PCs that can not be directly interacted with are also available to ordinary users.

TeamViewer

One of the most popular programs using remote access is TeamViewer. The only condition that must be met before controlling the PC at a distance is to run the application on both devices. All transmitted and received data is encrypted, which makes the connection secure.

One of the main advantages of the product is that the tool is completely free for non-commercial purposes. You do not even need to install it to manage it. This is convenient if the program is run on someone else's computer and then will not be used regularly.

On the developer's site, customers are available, not only for Windows. Among the supported platforms are Linux, MacOS, iOS, Android, Windows Phone. The program interface is Russified.

Installation

In order for the remote access connection to be as comfortable as possible, you must first install the application. The fact that the launch of the portable version allows you to work only a few minutes, after which the connection will have to be restored.

Download the installation package from the official website of the manufacturer. Double click on it to start. After that, the user will be given a choice:

• Install;
• Install to manage the computer on which the installation is performed;
• Run.

In either case, check the box next to the "non-commercial use" line.

Next, the program files will be unpacked and copied. Immediately after the process, TeamViewer will be launched.

Customize

Access to the remote computer via the Internet does not require the implementation of an additional software configuration, but it can be configured "by itself." To enter the program settings, you need to click on the "Advanced", and then select the "Options" line.

The "Basic" tab allows you to:

• Select the name displayed in the contact list.
• Configure the network (select a proxy server, enable the computer to be remotely connected).
• Enter the name and password from the account, if you previously registered on the developer's site.

The item "Security" enables you to:

• Set a personal password so that access to the remote computer via the Internet can be performed without confirmation.
• Select the reliability of a random access code.
• You can also change the connection rules for your computer.
• Set the rules for connecting to a PC in which the user has not logged on.

The Control tab provides a choice of the quality of the image transmitted from the remote device. With a slow Internet, check the box next to "Hide wallpaper" and set the "Quality" switch to "Optimize speed".

Invite a partner

Open tab "Management" in the main window of the program allows you to establish remote access to your computer. The "ID" and "Password" columns are displayed here. All data from them should be sent to the partner who will manage your PC. Remember that you only need to pass on the code and the ID to trusted people (to avoid risks).

Managing the remote computer

In the right part of the program window there is a panel called "Manage computer". To connect to a remote device, enter the ID that the other person has transferred to the "Partner ID" field.

After clicking the "Connect" button and establishing a connection, the application will ask for the access password. Enter it and click on "Login". After a few seconds, a window will open on the monitor screen, where the desktop of the PC you are currently managing will be displayed.

Configuring Windows Internal Tools

It is not necessary to install any additional applications to install remote access. Windows 7 has a built-in utility.

Its configuration is as follows:

• Right click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties".
• In the window that opens, click on the "Additional parameters" line.
• Click the "Remote Access" tab.
• Check the box next to "Allow connection".
• By clicking the "Advanced" button, you can configure the maximum duration of the session. After that, the connection will be terminated forcibly. If you uncheck the box "Allow management", the connected user can not perform any actions, but will see all the manipulations made on the computer.
• At the bottom of the window, set the switch to Allow connections.
• Click on the "Select users" icon. Add the person whose data will be used to sign in. Keep in mind that the password for the user must be set mandatory.

If you need to connect to a computer, follow these steps:

• Click Start, click Accessories, and then click Remote Desktop Connection.
• In the column "Computer" it is necessary to print the IP-address of the PC to which access will be made and click on the "Connect" button.
• A window opens prompting you to enter the password and the user name.

Before connecting, if necessary, program settings can be made located on several tabs.

• General . Here you can save the configuration so that access to the remote computer via the Internet does not require entering an IP address and changing the settings each time.
• The screen . Set the resolution and number of colors.
• Local resources allow you to disable playing sounds on a remote computer. Also here you can specify whether to use keyboard shortcuts and whether local PC devices will be available after connection (printers, hard disks).

In the " Applications " tab you can add those applications that will be automatically launched during the connection.

Access to a remote computer via the Internet with the help of Windows built-in tools can be performed in a limited number of cases. The most important obstacle is the need for an external IP. Not all providers provide this option for free.
