Worms rain - a source of valuable fertilizer

Gardeners are trying in various ways to improve the properties and structure of the land. The introduction of organic fertilizers is one of the most effective methods, but if there are enough worms in the soil. Worms of rain live where there is moisture and dead orgasm. But there are several conditions that are necessary for their reproduction and active life.

Favorable habitat:

  1. Worms need rainwater 70-75%. If the level drops to 30%, then growth and development slows down, and at a moisture content of 22% worms die out within 7 days.
  2. On acid soils, where pH is above 9, or on dry, with pH below 5, worms reproduce poorly. Optimal for them is a neutral medium with PH = 7.
  3. Fertilizer organic is necessary. While processing manure, compost and humus, rainworms reproduce very quickly, postponing every week the cocoon from which 3 to 21 young individuals leave.

Why do earthworms in the soil?

Earthworms (or saprophages) inhabit all levels of the soil. Eat all kinds of rotting remnants, bacteria, nematodes, spores of fungi, algae, badly decomposed manure and compost. As a result, all listed substances are transformed by worms into coprolites. These are such heaps, which are a unique fertilizer for cultivated plants. It contains phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium in an accessible form, which is not released immediately, but as the plant develops.

In addition, rain worms erupt an infinite number of courses and channels. Through the channels, air penetrates deep into the soil, accelerating chemical processes. Increases air and moisture permeability, and water and air - the main components of all life processes.

Especially important is the role of earthworms for the creation of valuable fertilizer based on biohumus. By absorbing and digesting the organics, saprophages rid the earth of a huge number of pathogenic microorganisms, destroy the unpleasant smell of the half-decomposed biological mass. The soil becomes clean, friable and acquires a pleasant earthen smell. At the same time, it is enriched with enzymes, valuable amino acids, vitamins, humus.

How to increase the productivity of the soil?

It is not difficult to check the yield of the land. It is enough to dig a small lump and see if there are many worms there. If large reddish worms are found in large numbers, then the harvest will be worthy. If the worms are small or not at all, then you need to restore the fertility of the soil. To do this, arrange wet composts in shaded areas. Enclosed walls, covered with sloping grass, weeded weeds, humus, poured warm water and run earthworms (approximately 1 bucket). They need a weekly watering and the addition of an edible layer. During the summer period, the number of land inhabitants will increase 10-20 times. At the end of summer, the compost is disassembled and, together with the worms, is introduced into the site. At the same time, there must be enough food in the ground. Preliminarily, you can add a diluted bird droppings, humus, compost from leaves with a mixture of chernozem. Adult individuals will winter, and the next year the breeding and introduction of worms will yield its results.
