Winter barley and African millet - how to improve the efficiency of food supply

Balanced forage reserve is the key to the proper development and growth of farm animals. From feed, animals get the energy and nutrients they need for growth, trace elements and minerals. Rational nutrition in terms of quantity and composition must meet the basic physiological needs of the animal. The main advantages of using high-quality food:

  • Good digestion in animals
  • Stable increase in weight
  • Strengthening the immune system, reducing the number of diseases

The creation and preservation of an effective food base is not an easy task, which can be solved by using two crops: African millet and winter barley.

Briefly about African prose

In the arid climate of some regions, a special problem is the conservation and harvesting of the fodder base. And in this issue the solution is the use of a special culture - African millet.

It represents a special annual plant with the properties of increased drought resistance and high yield (approximately 266 centners per hectare). In addition, the compound feed produced on its basis, wholly purchased for the needs of the food base, will provide the animals with the most important biological substances, About 100 units, about 19 feed units. It is also worth noting that African millet is ideal as a feed for pigs, horses, cattle and poultry.

For agricultural needs, sowing is carried out depending on what part of the plant is planned to be used as a fodder base. So, for the preparation of hay should be sowing 60 days before the expected date of collection, and to receive grain - for 150 days. It should be borne in mind that these terms include only the growth of culture from the time of emergence to the planned collection.

It should also be noted that when collecting African millet for silage, there are some features. First, they should be cut off at the time of panicle formation, when the entire spectrum of nutrients is contained in the stems. Secondly, the shear itself must be carried out at a level of 20 cm from the soil to ensure re-ascent.

For this fodder crop, special attention should be paid to those farms that are located in the southern arid regions, since It is there that the drought takes away most of the possible food base.

Winter barley - the advantages of the variety

The second most effective fodder crop, winter barley, bought for agricultural purposes in bulk, can provide not only a full-fledged base, but also create additional promising conditions for growing additional crops.

Its harvests exceed, to a large extent, the germination of the spring barley variety, and are also an ideal base for the cultivation of another fodder crop - milk-waxy corn.

As a rule, in order to obtain the maximum possible amount of winter barley, a so-called "separate" method is used for its harvesting. It consists in the fact that in the beginning barley is cut off by the muffler cutters, and after four days the harvesters, equipped with pickers, gather from the field.

It should be collected from the moment of its maturation, beginning in the middle of June, in order to avoid shedding of ears and, as a result, loss of harvest.

In conclusion, it should be noted that the cultivation of both crops examined increases the indicators both in the livestock and agricultural sectors of agriculture.
