Who is a poet, his difference from a writer

To answer the question, who is a poet, it is not enough to look into the dictionary. In translation from the Greek language - this is a poet. But not every rhyme we call poetry, and not every master of the word owns it. Often poets are considered to be people who can gracefully and figuratively convey the beauty of the surrounding world, regardless of the way they are presented.

A bit of history

A few thousand years ago in the European territory there lived tribes of the Celts, who did not know writing. They left no textual sources, but the heroes born of their fantasy are reflected in the legends of the Middle Ages: the magician Merlin, Prince Eisenhurz, Tristan and Isolde. Thanks to the poets-bards, enveloping surrounding events in a poetic form, stories have reached modern readers and found a response in their hearts.

The Creator, who has an extraordinary gift, bordering on the supernatural, is a poet. The meaning of the word was interpreted in this way by the ancient Celts, so all the beginning priests-druids practiced rhyming. The legends were accompanied by playing the harps, which literally fascinated ordinary people.

Despite the primacy of the poetic presentation, legends were also transmitted by prose. Until the 19th century, all fiction was called poetry. Today we use the term only in the narrow sense of the word.

Features of poetry

The creativity of poets is poetry: poems, poems, ballads. Having ancient roots, she:

  • Bewitches the beauty of sound;
  • Conveys the amazing music of the word;
  • Expresses the author's feelings, opening the door to the secrets of his soul;
  • Helps to better understand other people, sympathize with them;
  • Delivers aesthetic pleasure;
  • Personifies a certain element that allows one to feel unity with nature.

This is achieved by introducing into it new dimensions that are not required in everyday speech: meter, rhyme, rhythm. Unusual organization of speech singles out poetry in a special kind of literary creation, distinguishing it from prose.

Poet and poet: differences

Today, the computer is able to pick up the maximum number of rhymes and create real "masterpieces" written by a horei or iambic. But such works are easy to distinguish from author's lines. It is difficult to call art and advertising slogans or impersonal congratulatory verses made to order. Who is a poet and what is his difference from any poet?

The opinion of the readers and the real professionals is always important for a novice author. Their evaluation in the form of words: "You are a real poet" - is the highest degree of praise and recognition of skill. What are the conditions for this to be satisfied by his work?

  • The author's feelings should be understandable and affect the strings of the reader's soul.
  • He must have a rich imagination, thinking non-standard images.
  • To be able to see the extraordinary in everyday life, finding interesting metaphors and epithets.
  • Being an emotional and open person, knowing how to write with the heart, not with the mind.
  • Have a musicality and a sense of rhythm.

Prose and poetry: differences

In metaphorical meaning, poets are often called all who are able to delicately express thoughts, conveying the beauty of the depicted phenomenon. But in literature, still clearly distinguish the types of artistic creativity, which deal with writers and poets. The difference concerns the form of presentation of thought and speech, which can be presented in the form of a table:

Top Representatives

Among the world classics of poetry are the names of Pushkin and Lermontov, Pasternak and Voznesensky, Dante and Goethe, Petrarch and Byron. Turning to their personality, you can find the answer to the question, who is a poet. All of them are bright creative natures, endowed with a rich imagination and emanating them from the crowd with emotionality. If they love, then truly, experiencing a storm of passion, tormented by jealousy, lack of reciprocity or the inability to connect their destinies. Their sense of rhythm and melody permeate every line. It is no coincidence that many of their works easily fall on music, turning verses into romances and songs.

Geniuses are words, they are absolutely universal. So, A. Pushkin is the author of one of the best poems in the poems "Eugene Onegin". His pen belongs to a play that did not descend from the stage since 1870 - "Boris Godunov". Put on music by M. Mussorgsky, the opera of the same name adorns the stage of the best musical theaters of the world. "Dubrovsky", "Snowstorm", "Captain's Daughter" - samples of the best works of art in prose. Many consider unsurpassed M. Lermontov's novel "The Hero of Our Time". But at the same time, at his age of 27, he left a rich verse heritage, according to which he is regarded as the most brilliant lyrical authors in the history of world literature.

The meaning of the word "poet" in the ancient world

Already in ancient times, the authors thought about what should be their creativity to the reader. Horace (Ancient Rome) spoke of the need to educate virtue and subtle taste. It was to the poets that he attributed the merit in that they softened the morals of the primitive system. The form of the poem is important, and it should like, but it must be filled with instructive content. For this, the authors need to study philosophy and human nature. A poet can not be mediocrity. His task is to strive for excellence, not content with small achievements.

Purpose of the poet

Thought Horace developed the best representatives of literature XVIII-XIX century. A. Pushkin in his early works set the task of being the inspiration of the "freeman of the holy", glorifying the freedom of thought and creativity. In more mature years, the theme of the poet and poetry became one of the defining themes in his work - poems "The Prophet", "Poet", "Monument" appeared, in which he revised his views. In his opinion, the poet is above other people, but, awakened by the voice of God, he should not strive to correct them. Turning to the soul, and not to reason, the author is called upon to awaken in man the best that makes him a man.

M. Lermontov developed Pushkin's understanding of the poet as a citizen, obliged to meet the crowd. But for him it is obvious that in this mass he will remain alone. The problem can only be solved through rapprochement, and so N. Gogol suggested that the poet must see the pain and wooing of the people.

Afterword

The poet, as well as the writer, can not be learned. This is not a profession that can be mastered by acquiring certain skills. Therefore, one must be born, for this is a special way of perceiving life, an artistic and human talent, an inevitability of fate that can not be avoided. How to answer the question, who is a poet, taking into account the present day?

E. Evtushenko in the poem "For Beginners" calls for overcoming "lack of character" and "facelessness" and not being afraid of "mastery of ineptitude". A real poet can become not through metaphors, but through life-ordeals. The author will take place as an author only when his experiences find response from readers, and for this you need to be honest with yourself.

And only time will show how valuable his poetry is for people in general, and not just for the generation to which he belongs.
