Krasnoe Selo (Leningrad region) - one of the most beautiful suburbs of St. Petersburg

In the old days in Russian, the word "red" was used somewhat in another sense - beautiful, beautiful, attractive. Therefore, there are many villages on the Russian land that bear the names "Red", "Red" or "Red". One of them is the city of Krasnoe Selo (Leningrad region), which is part of the St. Petersburg district of the same name.

History

This city was founded under Peter the Great, back in 1714. It was then that the construction of Russia's first paper mill began in this town. For construction and production needs from the village of Krasnoe near Moscow, serfs were sent here. They were settled near the place of the future mill. As time went on, the village grew, and it was called just like the native village of workers.

The Red Village was in a picturesque area, among forests and lakes. Tsar Peter gave it to his wife, Catherine the First, and she ordered to rebuild a wooden palace and a church (unfortunately, they have not survived to this day). In 1735, a new stone Trinity Church of St. Catherine the Great Martyr was built on the funds allocated by Anna Ioannovna. Today it is one of the oldest churches in the entire Leningrad region. During the reign of Catherine II, the Red Village began to develop in a different direction, in the military. Here the guardsmen of the St. Petersburg garrison were quartered. Until 1811 this village was officially called "Dvortsovoye Krasnoye Selo". The Leningrad region until 1914 was called the St. Petersburg Province. After that, it was renamed twice more. But the name of the city remained unchanged to this day.

Krasnoe Selo is the military capital of Russia

As already noted above, even during Catherine II in this area, military maneuvers were conducted. During the reign of Alexander the First, the Red Village and its surroundings turned completely into the summer military capital of the empire. His younger brother, Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich, who worshiped military affairs, built a modest wooden palace next to the barracks for himself and spent practically all his time with the troops. All the warm months of the year there were conducted exercises and parades, which were attended by the emperor himself.

Soviet time

After the October Revolution, the White Army concentrated in the Red Village. From here they were preparing for the assault on Petrograd. In 1925, the village of Krasnoe Selo received the status of a city, and from that moment it began to develop along a new path. However, during the Patriotic War, the fascists, sweeping away everything around, broke into Krasnoe Selo. The Leningrad region was occupied by the German invaders, and Leningrad itself was in blockade. After the end of the war, the Red Army began to bring their dilapidated city in order. New multi-storey houses, schools and kindergartens, hospitals and other institutions were built.

New time

As it was mentioned above, the foundation date of the city of Krasnoye Selo (Leningrad region) is 1714, therefore, this year in the middle of September (according to the decision of the authorities of the city of St. Petersburg), it will solemnly celebrate its tercentenary. According to its status, the city is considered a municipal formation, the enclave of which includes the villages of Khvoinoye and Mozhaisky. It also includes 2 historical districts - Skachki (between the line of the Gatchina railway and the Gorelovsky overpass) and Mozhaisky-Dudergof (between the Red Selo and the Duderhof lakes). Special interest for tourists here does not represent local places, except perhaps the famous Trinity Church located in the center of the city of Krasnoe Selo (Leningrad region). How to get here, in principle, everyone in St. Petersburg knows. It is located only 11 kilometers from the northern capital, on the hills of the Izhorskaya Upland. Here, at the foot of the hill, is the Nameless Lake - a favorite vacation spot for Petersburgers. By the way, in 2011 it was recognized by ecologists as the cleanest in the whole region. Through this place is the Gatchina-Baltiysk-St. Petersburg railway line. The station "Krasnoe Selo" is located on the eastern outskirts of the city. You can also come here by road on the Tallinn Highway, spending only 15-20 minutes on the way.

Krasnoe Selo, Leningrad region: attractions and natural monuments

Town in terms of architecture is not of great interest. Here, little has been preserved since the times when it was considered the summer military capital of the empire. The most beautiful building in the city, of course, is the Church of the Holy Trinity, which was built under Anna Ioannovna and is a wonderful example of Baroque architecture. However, since these times it had to be restored several times, as a result of which the appearance of the temple was partially changed. In the city there is also the church of Alexander Nevsky. From the palace buildings today only two-storeyed building of the kitchen of one of the royal palaces, as well as the unremarkable wooden building of the palace of Grand Duke Michael (the youngest son of Paul the First) were preserved. In Soviet times in the city was erected a memorial to the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. Among the sights of the city you can also highlight the museum "Mosty", dedicated to the history of the development of rail transport in Russia.

Where to stay in Krasnoe Selo (Leningrad region): hotels

St. Petersburg is the most beautiful city in Russia. Every year, millions of tourists come here to view its many attractions. They are located either in the city itself, or in its suburbs. In Krasnoye Selo there are practically no large hotels, only small family hotels. Probably, therefore the town is not very popular from the point of view of tourism. Among the guest houses of this suburb of St. Petersburg, you can note the mini-hotel RedVill. Here you can find quite decent service and delicious cuisine.

Conclusion

The Leningrad region is rich in sights. Here at every step you can meet unique monuments of architecture and history. These places are also famous for beautiful natural landscapes. For example, the view from the Izhorskaya Upland, on which the city of Krasnoye Selo is located, is so beautiful that it can impress the imagination of even the most experienced aesthete, while Lake Bezymyannoe, located in a hollow under the hill, is considered the cleanest and best holiday destination for residents of nearby areas.
