What will Finland like about us? Turku is an old capital and a modern province

One of the most attractive places for tourists who appreciate "naturalness" and natural and climatic conditions is Finland. Turku and Helsinki - these cities are visited by Russian travelers most often. What interesting things can you see there and how to get from the capital to other regions?

One of the most developed countries in respect of roads and motorways is Finland. Turku separates from the capital only two hours drive to A comfortable bus along a perfectly smooth highway. Surprise and admiration is caused by the Finnish roads: paved in severe rocky regions, they are maintained in excellent condition. From the northern capital (Petersburg), Russians regularly visit their European neighbors, making their purchases, resting, having fun. What other facilities can Finland offer to our compatriots? Turku, for example, is connected with direct communication with Gdansk and Budapest, as well as with the largest European cultural centers. Hence, from there you can fly to the "Old World" at attractive prices (often air tickets cost up to 25-30 dollars). Despite the fact that our northern neighbor is quite an expensive country, its ideal location and connection with European metropolises (for example, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Hamburg) by sea, air and land make it extremely worthy of attention. Accommodation in a hotel with an average level of service and comfort costs from 50 euros per day. Dinners and lunches in restaurants will also cost a fortune. But Finland is also famous for its quality and reliability, conscientiousness and successful ecological solutions. The city of Turku, whose photo can be seen below, is a small province not far from the capital. If you have time, it is worth devoting one or two days to visit this interesting place.

Like the rest of Finland, Turku is full of greenery - parks and gardens. It was here that the oldest university in the country was founded, and the city itself served as the capital until 1812. A medieval castle, a 13th-century cathedral, a historical museum and many private designer shops make this place cozy and comfortable. Like the whole of Finland, Turku, whose attractions can be bypassed in two or three days, was very proud of the title of " European Capital of Culture" 2011. The city center is centered around a small square. Ancient houses, a bit like St. Petersburg buildings, the Aura embankment, cozy streets and parks - thanks to all this, Turku is an ideal place for a weekend getaway. As in all of Finland, on Saturday and Sunday only large supermarkets (for example, Stockmann) work, but visiting them will bring real pleasure to shoppers.

Do you prefer the old or modern design? If you like modernism and newfangled trends, you will certainly like Finland. Turku, Helsinki, Porvoo - in these cities it will be difficult to find real European elegance of style comparable to German or French. But local designers will please you with modern materials, concepts and lines. For natural furs, skin, fish is to go to the market. But gifts in the style of high-tech or gizmos of modern design with its strict lines and bizarre drawings can be purchased at Stockmann.
