Cathedral

Historical sights of Turku are very diverse and require detailed description. The main religious structure is the Lutheran Cathedral, erected in the XIII century. Inside the cathedral is decorated with colorful stained-glass windows and frescoes on biblical and historical themes. The remains of the Swedish military heroes rest in the chapels. After the reconstruction of the national shrine, a hundred-meter belltower appeared, a fertile ringing with which pleases the townspeople and visitors of the city. The entrance to the cathedral is free, but in case of important church events the religious building is closed.

The Abo Castle

All who wish to get acquainted with the largest monument of Scandinavian architecture, perfectly preserved to this day, come to a cozy Turku. The city, whose sights are familiar with ancient history, is incredibly proud of the Abo castle, originally served for military purposes. It appeared in the XIII century, it was then that military camps were built.

The main fort of the Finns during the Swedish rule controlled an important strategic point, and in the Renaissance turned into a temporary residence for the monarchs of Sweden. But the most famous medieval defensive structure acquired during the reign of Duke Juhan III, who madly loved his Polish wife. As a result of political intrigues, the couple were sent to prison at the castle, and after the palace coup the couple sat on the Swedish throne. And to this day in honor of the Duke and his wife held colorful theatrical performances.

In the XIX century, the authorities decided to create a historical museum on the territory of the castle in Turku (Finland). The sights, which represent a whole architectural complex, are open for visits on all days, except Sundays. In the central halls, entertainment events are held annually for urban residents in a medieval style, and in the old chapel, wedding ceremonies are held.

Main square of the city

Stores of ancient Turkestan history are of great interest to tourists. An important cultural area of the old square is the most popular place for locals and visitors of the city. The structures made in different architectural styles form a colorful space.

For four days in June the city is transformed and transferred to medieval times. So be sure to come to Turku in the summer, whose sights will delight every guest. But no less interesting is the square in the winter season. It opens Christmas markets, where you can try various delicacies, take part in costume performances, look at the memorable show of fireworks. It is here that the main Christmas tree of the country is put, and for Christmas and New Year holidays tourists from all over the world hurry here.

Museum of Moomin-trolls

You can not ignore the famous Moomin Museum, located 16 kilometers from Turku. Attractions, photos of which will lead to the enthusiastic delight of children and their parents, are on the island of Kailo. Fairy-tale characters come to life in a huge park, welcoming every visitor. Here you can chat with your favorite heroes, take pictures with ridiculous fantastic creatures and even inspect their homes.

Museums of Turku

Local residents believe that the unique museums of the city are the main tourist attractions of Turku. But the most interesting is the Museum of Crafts, which is a huge territory of 18 quarters. All wooden buildings located in the open air are real. When you inspect an unusual museum, tourists get acquainted with the life and lifestyle of local artisans, here you can buy various souvenirs and sweets, made by hand according to old recipes.
