What should be the normal temperature of the video card?

All computer components release a certain amount of heat during operation. With poor cooling, the temperature of the computer can reach critical values and disable it, especially for the video card. In this article, we will try to find out what the normal temperature of the video card should be and how to avoid increasing it.

The temperature of the video cards differs from each other in different manufacturers and depends heavily on the method of cooling and power. For a typical video card, it is approximately 40 degrees during idle time and 70 degrees under load. Too often find out what the normal temperature of a video card is not necessary. It is enough to have one check every three months. If there are failures in some applications, reboots and system performance degradation, the temperature sensors can tell a great deal to an experienced user.

At the moment, equipment for computers runs at very high frequencies and manufacturers, due to very high competition, very high requirements for capacity and product performance. In our time, the gamer is incredibly lucky, as manufacturers, competing with each other for the market, produce models with stunning capacity of "iron" for a relatively small cost. In addition, companies in the process of fighting for the customer are already accelerating the standard graphics card to a serious level at the factory, or they provide various utilities for independently "overclocking" the computer hardware.

The game graphics card has a property to get very hot, and in order to maintain the normal temperature of the video card constantly, manufacturers install various complex cooling systems with large coolers and radiators.

In the case of serviceability, the cooling system does not allow such heating of the processor, but in time, any even the most reliable equipment begins to wear out, especially the cooler. Grease withers, dust gets, parts are deformed. As a result - overheating and failure.

If your computer has such "disease symptoms" and the optimal temperature of the video card goes beyond its acceptable limits, you need to take appropriate measures:

  • First, pay attention to the dustiness of the fan of the cooler and its cooling fins;
  • Secondly, it is necessary to pay attention to the location of the system unit itself (there should be free space around it for access of fresh air and high-quality ventilation). Even such a simple action as removing the side cover of the system unit at times increases the cooling of the computer and its performance;
  • Third, you can use various programs that increase the rotation speed of the cooling fan of the video card. In this case, in order to ensure that the normal temperature of the video card does not go beyond acceptable limits, when starting "heavy" applications, it is necessary to manually increase the frequency of the fan operation.

Separately, I would like to say about the effectiveness of the last paragraph. Adjusting the airflow is necessary not only to maintain the optimum temperature of the video card, but also to ensure its power reserve. You can conduct a simple experience yourself: with increasing cooling on your computer, the frame rate is increased by fifteen percent! Not a bad performance gain, do you think?

And can you imagine the capabilities of your computer if the normal temperature of the video card under full load is several times lower than the one set by the manufacturer? For this, there are systems of forced forced cooling, the main component of which is liquid nitrogen. Well, this is the topic of a separate article ...

I wish you to use only quality and good hardware! Good luck!
