How to learn the computer's RAM, and which of the ways is better?

There are three ways to learn the computer's RAM. The first of these is the hardware one, the last two use PC software. The difference between them is that in the first case, the operating system is not loaded, and the test is performed using the BIOS, and in the second - this is the definition of RAM parameters using software tools running OS.

The simplest and most accessible way to determine PC parameters is to directly disassemble the enclosure and inspect the surface of the parts. In most cases it is quite enough to remove the side panel of the system unit in order to get exhaustive information about its "stuffing". Similarly, you can find out information about the type of motherboard, video card, hard disk and other computer components. The disadvantages of this method include the following:

  1. Not always on the elements have identification stickers.

  2. If the block is under warranty, then it is not always possible to disassemble it.

The second way, which allows you to get an answer to the question "how to learn the computer's RAM", is to use the built-in basic input / output system. It is designated as BIOS (the abbreviation is derived from the English words basic input output system). To determine the parameters, just press "F2" at boot time. The main menu appears on the PC screen. Next, for example, to modify the AMIBIOS, go to the Main menu item and then select System Information. In the System Memory section, you can define some RAM parameters (memory size and type). The disadvantages of this diagnosis are the impossibility of obtaining exhaustive information about the parameters. Plus is the availability and minimum time investment.

Often, in order to answer the question of how to learn the computer's RAM, various software tools are used. The easiest way is to use the basic tools of Windows.

The first one is a shortcut menu call by right-clicking on the "My Computer" icon and selecting the "Properties" option. The corresponding tab will indicate the amount of RAM. The second standard way is to use the dxdiag.exe utility. To start it, just go to the "Start" menu, then select "Programs", then - "Standard". In the standard, select "Run". In the line enter the name of the program and get the result after pressing "Enter". The drawback of these methods, as in the previous case, is not entirely comprehensive information.

Therefore, when you have a question about how to learn the computer's RAM, special programs are used. Among them, one can single out CPU-Z. It is publicly available, it is easy to download and install. In the menu of this product there is a separate tab dedicated to RAM. There you can get exhaustive information on each memory bar, learn its detailed characteristics.

Similarly, you can find out the situation with RAM in laptops and other mobile devices. It is enough only to install it. This raises another question: can I add RAM to my laptop? If there are no problems with the stationary block, then various variants are possible. From the position of theory - it is possible. But in practice, you need to look at the number of slots and what kind of boards are installed. If the system is 32-bit, and there are 4 gigabytes of memory in it, then you can not install it anymore. In turn, the 64-bit system allows you to install more memory. But still, a physical limitation can always be. In general, this is a rather problematic procedure, which it is quite difficult to perform independently. It is better to contact the service center.

RAM is one of the most expensive resources of modern PCs. Indirectly, this is confirmed by the prices for memory, which have recently been constantly rising.
