What Is Reggae Music?

What is reggae? For someone it's fanciful Jamaicans playing the guitars, for someone the favorite style of music, and for some, and at all an unfamiliar word. Well, let's still try to find out what kind of music reggae it is?

There was this style of music in the 60s of the 20th century in Jamaica, but the very term reggae was coined later (in 1968). The rhythm of the drums of Nayubinga, combined with the rhythms of rhythm and blues and ska, was the basis of the style.

The first person who introduced the whole world to reggae music was Bob Marley. In the mid-seventies of the twentieth century, the songs of Bob Marley acquired extraordinary popularity in European countries. His songs began to occupy the first places in the charts of Germany and England. Thanks to which almost all reggae began to listen, and this naturally caused a great interest in reggae style from all sorts of producers. There were pop reggae bands, the most popular of which was UB40.

The most famous performers of reggae at that time were:

1. Burning Spear;
2. Peter Tosh (started his musical activity with Bob Marley in the band The Wailers);
3. Aswad;
4. Culture.

The Wailers was the first reggae team to achieve popularity in Europe and America. And since that time the whole life of the Jamaicans began to revolve around the reggae music, because there were only two ways to earn: to become a reggae singer or bandit (many combined). In Jamaica, the crowd was pounded by rich producers from America and recorded local guys, in effect, for pennies, and on arrival home they made decent money on their music.

Today, reggae music has become very popular in Russia. And there are already quite a few groups of reggae music in Russian, here is a small list of Russian-speaking reggae bands: Addis Ababa, Jah Division, Marlins, Plant of Wisdom, Island, Heat Protection Committee, Roma VPR, NS, etc. In general, reggae is The style of music that originated in Jamaica in the 60s of the twentieth century and today is becoming increasingly popular in Russia ...
