How to grow strawberries without chemicals

Doing gardening, we do not bypass our attention a variety of berries. A wide variety of varieties and names leads to the fact that a third of the entire site is occupied by berry. But today we will talk about how to grow strawberries without chemicals.

Pleasant memories of sweetish taste and strong aroma of this royal berry are familiar to everyone from early childhood. In any garden area you can find several beds with different varieties. But not every gardener knows how to grow strawberries correctly. I am a supporter of the natural restoration of the land, therefore I have long ago refused to use a variety of chemical fertilizing on my site. But this did not affect the yield or the quality of the berries.

For several years, I used all the information I received and tried various methods of growing, fertilizing and treating plants. This gave me the necessary practical experience and helped me to choose the most suitable method. Now you can tell how to grow strawberries with less cost and more harvest.

Let's start with the preparation of the soil. We need four beds, which must be filled with a loose, fertile mixture of garden or forest land, peat and manure. Why four? To track the correct rotation and replacement of bushes. Planting seedlings in the spring, after heating the soil by 15-20 centimeters. If the plot is submerged with water, high or multi-level beds are an excellent option. They warm up more quickly and prevent the bushes from getting wet. This leads to early flowering and increased yield.

How to grow strawberries from your seedlings? This issue is of concern to many gardeners. During the previous summer, note the bushes with the largest and tasty berries. To do this, it is enough to stick light beacons next to them. Next spring we take seedlings from them. The best two qualities and strong root system are the first two bushes on each mustache. We dig them out of the garden, we cut off the mustache and carry it to a new place with a clod of earth. We try to disturb the roots as little as possible.

We plant strawberries in two rows, along the edges of the bed. In the center we plant peppermint, garlic or calendula. They will help us to protect the planting from pests and attract bees to pollinating flowers. Between the plants we leave about 20 centimeters. Do not thicken the landing, wanting to save space. This will not lead to a large crop, but to the occurrence of various diseases.

We dig a pit of the necessary depth, water and carefully plant the seedlings, sprinkling the earth. We follow the location of the kidney near the bush. It should be level with the level of the bed. Equally bad plant will react to the burial or elevation of the bush over the bed. In the first case, the kidney becomes wet, and in the second, the roots of the plant dry up. After planting, we water the garden water from the watering can and mulch the crushed eggshell and pine needles.

During the summer several times we feed strawberries with infusion of herbs. For its preparation we collect nettles, mint, burdock, onion husks and other herbs. Fill the barrel with water. Grass we put in a grid and we lower in water. Close the lid with a lid. The infusion is prepared for several days, after which it can be used for fertilizing plants. We pour under the root. The composition of the infusion provides a complete top dressing of strawberries with all useful substances. Strong smell of marigold, mint and melissa scares off pests, but attracts bees. The layer of mulch protects from the appearance of slugs, and a free landing allows you to ensure good ventilation and protect from gray rot.

How to grow strawberries and change the old bushes on new landings in time? To do this, it is sufficient to use a system of four beds. On the first is the young seedlings of the first year. On the second and third beds there are the main plantings of strawberries, giving the maximum yield of the second and third years. On the fourth row there are bushes, from which we take a new seedling. They give good and tasty berries, but in less quantity.

Depending on weather conditions, we regulate the watering of strawberries during the summer period, almost completely stopping it after fruiting. At the end of August, we cut old leaves and remove them from the beds. In the middle of September we mulch the bushes with peat, a layer of 2-3 centimeters, and cover with spruce branches.

Like many gardeners, I was worried about the question of how to grow strawberries at home. But after trying a few years to get berries in the winter, I decided to abandon this venture. Transplanting varieties in flower pots with nutrient ground in July and installing their houses in late August, we were able to enjoy berries until the end of October. After that, the bushes could be grown as ordinary houseplants and planted in the open ground next spring. But since you need a free space for a large number of seedlings, and many flowers have to be removed from the windowsills, there was not room for strawberries.
