What is polyester?

Polyester is a common representative of the polyester class. This is a synthetic fiber from the melt of polyethylene terephthalate.

What is polyester?

Studies on it were started in 1935 in the UK, it was registered in 1945. In the former USSR was called lavsan (in the place of research in the laboratory of the Academy of Sciences). What is polyester? The materials of this group are used in the production of food films, plastics. This is a common direction in the polymer industry. In Russia, they are used mainly as blanks of different types, from which all kinds of plastic containers and containers are made. To a lesser extent, it is used for fabrication, film and casting of various products. In other countries, the situation is opposite: most polyethylene terephthalates are used in the production of yarns, fibers.

Composition

What is polyester? Do you know what its composition is? Polyester properties is unique. That's why it's so appreciated. 100 polyester keeps very strong heat resistance. It has high elasticity and weak hygroscopicity. This property is excellent for use in light industry, because these products are excellent in appearance and do not change shape. When used, it is noted that polyester is resistant to burnout, mold, it is not even afraid of moths. Do not bleach.

Mixture with other fibers

To increase the strength of finished products, giving them antistatic properties, polyester is used with other natural fibers. This combination significantly improves the quality and consumer demand for fabrics for sewing all kinds of clothes (from coats, jackets, suits and underwear). Given that the polyester is soft and dries quickly, it is often combined with viscose and cotton. Polyester fibers are very similar to wool, ideally imitate the texture of natural fiber. In some cases a mixture with polyamide is used. From various additives, the structure of weaving, the size of the fibers used, polyester can change its texture, appearance, be matte or shiny.

Application area

What is polyester? He opens a group of synthetic tissues. Very popular and often used by designers. Its resistance to light, high strength and property for a long time to keep the shape will always be in the price of the leading fashion brands. The positive properties include the following:

- Fabrics thin, very quickly drying.

- Well retains and fits the form, does not crumple. It should be borne in mind that when overheating on the tissue may appear wrinkles, which are not so easy to straighten.

- It is not afraid of sunlight, does not fade, it is suitable for sewing of textile products. After many years of use, such products retain the original brightness of the paints.

- Easy to clean, resistant to stains, easy to clean.

- Polyester fabrics are not afraid of atmospheric influences, they are ideal for sewing sports equipment, coats, jackets.

- When tailoring in products, pleated pleated and corrugated pleats are perfectly preserved.

- Fabrics do not stretch and do not sit down, they are strong to abrasion.

Negative properties of polyester are as follows:

- Low hygroscopicity.

- It's difficult to color.

- Has increased rigidity, is electrified.
