Border patrol ship: project 22460

June 26, 2009 Russian border guards celebrated a landmark event - the launch of a new border patrol ship project 22460 (cipher "Hunter"), known as "Ruby". Often this vessel is simply called "Project 22460". The descent took place at the capacities of the Almaz shipbuilding company in the city of St. Petersburg. Features

Thanks to the use of 3D modeling technologies at all stages of design, the developers managed to maximally rationally place the mechanisms and systems in the enclosure. This ensures high maintainability and the ability to quickly upgrade. The vessel "Project 22460" looks very modern. In its appearance, stealth technologies are embodied. Visibility in all radiation ranges is minimal, as is the level of physical fields.

The designers took into account that the vessel will be operated in different climatic conditions. The maximum that it is capable of is working in broken ice with a thickness of not more than 200 mm.

Armament

The ship is armed with one six-barreled artillery installation AK-630 with a caliber of 30 mm and two Kord machine guns with a caliber of 12.7 mm. If necessary (for example, in the case of military mobilization) it is envisaged to install launchers of the "Uran" missile system, the firing range of which reaches 130 km.

Seaworthiness

Already at the first tests it became clear that the vessel has very good seaworthiness. The German motor company MTU, which is equipped with a border ship project 22460, is considered the best in its class. Together with the successful design of the hull, it allows the ship to maintain a decent speed for a long period of time. With a wave of 4-5 points, it is about 25 knots. In the absence of waves, the ship can reach a speed of 30 knots. At the same time, the ship's run from full speed to "stop" is about two and a half hundred meters. And that the ship moved from full front to full reverse, you need only 90 seconds.

Control

The ship's handling is at a very high level. The diameter of the circulation at full speed is 4.5 times the length of the ship. A 360-degree turn just takes a minute. At a turn the thruster is used. At speeds of up to 5 knots (in small turns), the ship is controlled by a special joystick. An important parameter is the ability to hold the ship at one point. This is very convenient for rescue and inspection operations.

Another significant advantage of the ships "Rubin" was their class of automation. Thanks to the modern bridge system TRIMS, developers managed to bring the level of automation to class A1. This made it possible to reduce the number of crew carrying the watch in the guard house to three people. At the same time they will be able to manage all the systems and mechanisms of the vessel. Of course, each crew member must be a professional.

Living conditions

On the watchdog project 22460 very comfortable living conditions. There is even a sauna and a swimming pool. The crew is housed in comfortable block cabins with ergonomic furniture. In each of the cabins there is an individual bathroom with a shower and an air-conditioning system. To ensure the ship with fresh water, a desalination plant operates. Hot water is supplied around the clock.

The video surveillance system allows you to record all the actions inside the ship and carry out outdoor surveillance, for example, after the approach and landing of helicopters.

Big Brothers

The vessels created by the Northern PKB have long proved themselves on the positive side of the Russian border guards. Back in 1983, the first PKR of Project 11351 (code "Nereus") entered the composition of the KGB of the USSR. This series of ships was intended for protection of the economic zone with a length of 200 miles, on the basis of the lead ship of Project 1135. Due to the refusal of the antisubmarine RK, the designers were able to place the hangar on the deck, in which the search and rescue helicopter Ka-27PS constantly was based. In general, the vessels of the project 11351 came out very successful: high seaworthiness, strong armament, working capacity almost in any conditions. The ships of Project 22460 "Hunter" will primarily protect the territorial waters of the Russian Federation.

origin of name

The tradition of giving frontier ships the names of precious stones originated in the early twentieth century and was continued after the Second World War. In the mid-70s, a series of 1124P ships was built specifically for the border troops. It included such ships as "Emerald", "Pearl", "Amethyst" and others. When the question arose about the name of the new ship of the resurgent border fleet, it was decided to continue the old tradition.

Service and prospects

The border guard ship project 22460 (cipher "Hunter") since 2010 is serving in the Black Sea. In 2014, he took part in the protection of coastal waters during the Olympic Games in Sochi. According to the latest information from the Border Guard Service of the Russian FSB, the project 22460 will be implemented by at least 25 sentry vessels. Following the main "Ruby" were built a few more vessels of the project. The first of these was the "Diamond". It was launched on November 25, 2011. After a series of tests and completion, the ship went to serve in the Caspian Border Department.
