What is liquid skin? With our own hands we repair products made of genuine leather

Leather things: shoes, bags, purse, raincoats, gloves - are available in almost everyone's wardrobe. This traditional material has been used by people for centuries. In the process of wearing on any thing, there may be a scratch or scrub. How to return the novelty, the former appearance of the thing, to repair the damage so that it does not catch your eye? The tested product is liquid skin. But first - about the qualities of the material itself.

Features of a genuine leather

This unique natural material humanity has enjoyed for many centuries. Despite the reliability, the products need to be treated very carefully. Below are the actions that are undesirable during operation:

  • Subject to mechanical influences, as this entails a loss of the original form and appearance;
  • Wet through and twist - this will lead to deformation and hardening;
  • Accelerate drying in the vicinity of hot heaters, iron with iron, blow out with a hair dryer;
  • Expose to long-term storage in the sun.

From the interaction with aggressive chemicals on the leather things there are spots and whitish stains, the color changes.

Several folk methods for reconstructing the surface layer

In some cases, it is necessary to eliminate the consequences of accidental damage (scuffs, small cuts) on the surface of the leather product. For self-management of such problems, there are several proven means, among them the so-called liquid skin. With your own hands, you can pretty well fix the knocked down socks off your shoes or a scratch on your jacket.

The method of repair depends largely on the hardness, quality, thickness of the substrate, and also on the nature of the damage. Ordinary scuffs can easily be painted over with a nitrocolor from an aerosol can. The main thing here is to choose the right color and carefully, spray a thin layer over the worn out places. Full coloring of the product is recommended to be carried out in a specialized workshop.

To repair a thin scratch help self-made liquid skin. With their hands on the back of the product or a piece of the same skin with a pipette drip a little acetone. Immediately with a small spatula you need to scrape off the dissolved paint and carefully cover it with a cut. This method has long been known to shoemakers and restorers of shagreen products. The downside of it is that it is suitable solely for the restoration of minor, minor damages. To get rid of cut-through cuts it is possible only with the help of more complicated procedure with application of special glues and substrates.

Liquid skin with your hands

What kind of solvent to use to get the right product yourself? Commercially available professional formulations are made on the basis of alcohol, water and polymer dyes. The mixture is easily absorbed, filling the damaged parts of the product.

Without a chemical laboratory, obtaining exactly the same composition is extremely difficult. However, instead of it, you can use acrylic art colors of the appropriate color. It is important to remember that liquid skin is not an adhesive compound. The substance paints and decorates small defects on the product, filling the damaged area. If necessary, after drying, you can apply a second layer of the mixture.

In different cases, liquid skin is used:

  • With their own hands, shoe repair (knocked-down boots, scratched heels) with its help can hold everyone;
  • For the restoration of furniture (scratches from the claws of a cat);
  • With the purpose of restoring bags and gloves (cuts or scuffs);
  • When closing the needle punctures;
  • To mask other minor troubles.

Obtaining a relief texture on a thin lycra

For the care of leather products, not only liquid skin is used. They apply special fillers, sprayers and putty with their hands. One of the features of all these tools is the possibility of using only on a smooth surface.

To restore the textured front side, create a pattern template. A regular paper napkin with a small amount of substance applied to it is applied to the undamaged place of the product. The resulting stencil with a printed relief is removed for several hours for complete drying. While working on the restoration, the template is pressed for a few seconds to damage immediately after the application of the second painting layer. This trick will make the repair site invisible.

Do not wait for miracles: liquid skin

With your own hands, shoe creams, special water-repellent impregnations, softening mixtures can be prepared. A substance called liquid skin is just a thick polymer cream. This putty will not glue a large "wound" on the bag or jacket. It will help to repair small random defects on the front surface of the thing, being the restorer of the upper pigmented layer.

To correct more serious problems with the thing, use the "Moment" or polyurethane water-soluble adhesive. End-to-end "wounds" are embedded with a substrate, in several stages, of which the last is staining.
