What is gynecomastia? Treatment of this disease

Surprisingly, not only women but also men are affected by the pathologies of the mammary glands. One of these diseases is gynecomastia. Treatment of it, fortunately, in our time is not very difficult for doctors, even in neglected cases of the disease. Gynecomastia is the pathological development and proliferation of mammary glands. In men, it usually manifests itself in the fact that the breast of a female type begins to develop, and in women, the fact that the volume of the breasts becomes excessively large. It is believed that the volume of more than four hundred cubic centimeters is a sign of a possible pathology.

There is both true and false gynecomastia. Treatment of the disease in this case can differ significantly for different types. True gynecomastia is the abnormal development of precisely the glandular cells of the mammary gland, while the false one is characterized by an excessive deposition of adipose tissue in this organ.

Gynecomastia can also differ in the volume of pathologically altered tissue. For example, diffuse gynecomastia differs in that in this case the mammary gland develops strongly in its entire volume. Thus the size of a breast can considerably increase. In the case of a nodular variety of this disease, there are small seals that can often develop into a malignant tumor. In this case it is important to consult a doctor in time, as in case of delay, there can be sad consequences.

Symptoms of this disease are not limited to changes in the appearance of the breast, they can be expressed by the appearance of other specific signs, for example, secretions from the nipple, often with blood, painful sensations, increased density of the breast. Pathology can occur for many reasons, the main one of which is the violation of the hormonal background, often caused by the taking of certain drugs. In some cases, due to certain congenital abnormalities, gynecomastia may develop, treatment in the first place is based on restoring normal hormonal balance in the patient's body.

Diagnosis of gynecomastia consists in the passage of a number of tests: ultrasound of the mammary glands and a blood test for biochemistry, the purpose of which is to identify abnormalities of the hormonal background. In some cases, a biopsy of the gland tissues is prescribed.

There are several stages in which gynecomastia is characterized. Treatment in this case can be both very easy and conservative, and requiring mandatory surgical intervention. In the initial stage, it is usually enough to just put in order the amount of androgens and estrogens (male and female hormones) in the blood. In more neglected cases, such conservative methods can not be helped, because changes in tissues have assumed a stable and irreversible character - neglected gynecomastia. The operation in this case is mandatory. Despite the importance of this procedure, it is carried out in a short time, not more than one hour.
