What is corruption? Legal information

In the past two decades, the word "corruption" has been translated into the languages of almost everyone. Everyone has heard something about her, knows something. Everyone talks about her, but some did not even see her! However, the problem is that not everyone can explain what corruption is, few people understand the very essence of this term. Well, let's investigate this phenomenon. The word "corruption", derived from the Latin "corrumpere", in translation means "to corrupt". This term refers to the use by an official of his political or other power authority for personal gain, while it should be noted that such actions are contrary to the laws and moral rules of any country in the world.

Anticorruption rating

There is a global anti-corruption rating. The higher the index in the rating, the less bribery is present in this country. For six years, in the period from 2004 to 2010, Russia lowered its index from 2.8, which was 90th place, to 2.1, and this is 154th out of 178.

Corruption, which destroys the state system and affects all institutions, is typical for third world countries, where the economy is not developed in the best way. The leaders of the anti-corruption list are New Zealand and Singapore with indices of 9.3 and Sweden with Finland with indices of 9.2. In these countries, none of the residents know what corruption is, unlike Russian citizens.

What is corruption in Russia?

Bribery in Russia began during the transition of the state to the commodity-money type of relations in the early 90s. Small business people did not stint on money handouts by the highest official for the "correct" solution of necessary cases and issues. At the same time, corruption is the reason for the constant rise in price of goods and services, which is why most of the population of the country is under attack. Thus, the economy is degraded, which will end very badly in the near future. Before a corrupt government, the people do not feel any protection and begin to accumulate grievances, which in the end can lead to riots and revolutions, which in turn can become the final of the country's existence. No wonder Dmitry Medvedev said that corruption is a serious threat to the national security of the state. However, in 2007, the head of the anti-corruption committee of the country, Kirill Kabanov made an open statement that the fight against bribery in the country looks more like a performance and imitation than a real attempt to resist this problem.

Celebrating Anti-Corruption Day

Anti-Corruption Day Is international and Is celebrated on December 9 at the initiative of the United Nations. This day even has some semblance of a slogan telling us that corruption and success are two incompatible concepts. It was on this day in Mérida, in a Mexican city, that the High-level Political Conference on "What is corruption?" Was held, during which the UN Convention to Combat this Problem was signed. The Convention obliges states to declare bribes, use of budget funds for personal gain and corruption proceeds as criminal offenses. Hans Corell called more than a hundred representatives of countries to establish a day to fight the problem. On this day in many countries there are seminars, processions and demonstrations, meetings and conferences devoted to the topic of fighting corruption.
