The Northern Flotilla was founded in 1933 on the 1st of June. It was the youngest fleet of the country, it was based in Murmansk - in the Kola Bay. Creation of a fleet in the North was also tried by Peter I. In those years the Solombala shipyard was built in Arkhangelsk, thanks to which new warships appeared in Russia. In 1740, Russian ships began cruising north from the Norwegian Sea to Karsky, controlling the behavior of the Swedish fleet and defending its border.

Some historians associate the birthday of the Northern Fleet with the First World War. In those severe years, the Northern Flotilla was established, which existed until 1920. Then, on its basis, the government formed the White Sea fleet, which was transformed in the same year into the Northern Navy.

The fleet could not be saved because of a reduction in naval forces. Two years later, that is, in 1922, the naval forces disbanded: some of the ships began guarding the border, some were transferred to fishing trawlers.

Day of the Northern Fleet of Russia: the second birth

In 1933, on the orders of the People's Commissar of Defense from the Baltic Fleet , destroyers, patrol vessels, submarines moved to the north. Of these, the Northern Flotilla was formed with a base in Murmansk. At the same time, they began to build the first naval base in Polar. In 1937, the flotilla became the Northern Fleet under the command of Konstantin Dushenov, the flagship of the 1st rank.

Day of the Northern Fleet of Russia at that time did not celebrate: it was not until the holidays. In 1941 the war began, which became a severe test for the young fleet. Combat ships constantly plowed the sea, increased power.

It was the only fleet whose numerical strength increased during the war years. He covered the flank of the army against shelling enemy ships and landing, defended the sea traffic, violated the transportation of enemy cargo and took the initiative in their own hands.

Day of the Northern Fleet of Russia now is a memory of the selfless performance of duty, of courage and heroism of the North Moravians not only during the war years, but also in peacetime. After the war the power of the fleet became even greater. It launched the launch of a ballistic missile, and raised the flag on the 1st Russian nuclear submarine. The basis of the modern fleet in the North is submarines torpedo and nuclear missile, anti-submarine and aircraft-carrying ships, anti-submarine and missile-carrying aircraft.
