Why is it sometimes difficult to find the right gift?

All, probably, faced the problem of choosing gifts for friends, relatives or colleagues on holidays or on the occasion of a special date. Sometimes it becomes a real torture, because it is difficult or almost impossible to make the right choice. How to choose the right gifts, so that they really pleased their future owners?

Problem

Each of us received gifts that we never wanted, or those that we never used before. Sociologists conducted a whole study of what exactly is a bad gift, as well as those principles that encourage us to buy something for people close to us. At the same time, the basis of the problem is that the donor and the recipient of the gift look at the situation differently.

The one who gives, focuses on the moment of delivery, on surprise, on surprise and the opportunity to enthrall another person, while the recipient looks at the present as a useful thing that he will use for a long time.

Proceeding from this, the donor is more interested in only one moment, namely, when he presents the gift and sees the reaction of the other person. On the other hand, the recipient is more interested in how this gift can be used after a while.

It is these different views on this situation that give rise to bad presents. For example, if you look at a vacuum cleaner as a gift, you might think that this is a bad idea, because with this option it is difficult to cause the receiver's delight. However, the vacuum cleaner can be used for a long time and will really be in demand, which makes it a very good gift.

Common mistakes

This is the contradiction and is the main reason for the most frequent mistakes in choosing a gift.

Here are some of them:

  • Buy something that the recipient did not ask or did not want, only then to make him delight or surprise. At the same time the gifted would be more happy to receive the present he wanted and about which he spoke, even if it is not even a surprise.
  • To give standard and universal gifts, whereas the recipient may have wanted something original and unique.
  • The habit of giving socially approved gifts that match the situation, while a person would willingly receive something that he could really use.
  • Buy expensive and exquisite gifts to show your attitude, whereas a simpler, but a welcome gift would be much better and more pleasant for the recipient.

This is what causes dissatisfaction or disappointment in gifts.

How to choose the right gift?

In order to find the right gift, experts recommend putting yourself in the place of his recipient and think whether you would be personally pleased with such a present and would have enjoyed it for a long period.

We give gifts in order to make something pleasant for the closest people. Of course, it's very nice to see the smiles of loved ones at the moment when they open the box with the present. However, if the gift justifies itself in the future, then it will be really valuable and will benefit the recipient.
