We choose material for roofing works: what is better - metal or corrugated board?

Today, the modern construction market provides a wide range of materials for roofing and facade work, which differ in their cost and technical and operational characteristics. But, perhaps, the most popular materials have become metal roofing and profiled, which account for almost three quarters of the roofing materials being sold. And which one is more reliable, cheaper, more aesthetic? And anyway, what is better - metal or corrugated board?

Profiled sheeting

Profiled sheeting is made from sheets of galvanized steel by the cold rolling method. To obtain good rigidity, the product is given a shaped shape (usually trapezoidal or wavy). To improve the characteristics, the corrugated board can also be coated with a polymer coating and color-treated. To find out what is better - metal or corrugated board - you should know the advantages and disadvantages of this material.

Pluses:

  • Lightness and strength;
  • Simplicity of installation;
  • Rich choice.

Disadvantages:

  • Poor sound insulation properties;
  • Susceptibility to corrosion in places where the protective layer is damaged.

Metal tile

And what is the difference between metal and corrugated board? As well as profiled sheeting, metal tile is a metal sheet covered with a polymer protective layer, which is produced by the cold rolling method to give a wavy form, after which she is given a transverse wave by the method of cold stamping . As a rule, thin-gauge steel serves as a material for the production of metal. Protective coating - zinc or its mixture with other metals. To give an aesthetic appearance, the metal tile is covered with a decorative layer. The material received its name because in appearance it really resembles a tile, but it is much easier. It would seem that the answer to the question about what is better - metal or corrugated board, is obvious, but metal tiles also have their advantages and disadvantages.

Pluses:

  • Lightness and strength;
  • High ecological compatibility;
  • Simplicity of installation;
  • Rich choice.

Disadvantages:

  • Poor sound insulation properties;
  • Current conductivity;
  • Susceptibility to corrosion in places where the protective layer is damaged.

As we see, despite some differences in the technology of production, both materials, by and large, differ slightly from one another, except for the field of application. If metal roofing is used only as a roofing material, the field of application of corrugated board is much wider - in addition to covering the roofs, it is used for facing buildings and erecting various barriers. Another property that distinguishes between metal and profiled sheeting is the price, which, by the way, is slightly different. For example, a polyester covered square meter of metal tiles with a thickness of 0.5 millimeters is about 250 rubles. And a square meter of corrugated board of the same thickness will cost 210-215 rubles.

It is unambiguous to say that it is better - metal roofing or profiled sheeting for roofing works, it is rather difficult. Metal tile, of course, looks more attractive, but the use of corrugated board is cheaper not only because of the price of the material itself, but also the lower cost of components (drainage, skates, cornices, etc.). Therefore, everything depends on personal preferences and financial possibilities.
