Viral meningitis

To date, mankind knows a huge number of serious diseases, the treatment of which is either very difficult, or impossible at all. Unfortunately, meningitis also applies to them if the therapy is not started on time. At the initial stages, treatment of meningitis is a fairly simple exercise, but it is only a little "run" the disease, as terrible complications will not keep you waiting.

So what is meningitis?

It is an infectious disease characterized by inflammation of the hard or soft membranes of both the brain and spinal cord. There are several types of ailment, among which there is a classification according to the etiological sign: bacterial, viral meningitis, fungal, as well as mixed and meningitis of another etiology.

Parents often frighten their children by the fact that if you do not wear a hat, or go for a walk with a wet head in cold weather, you will necessarily get meningitis. In part this is true. Of course, not cold itself is the cause of the disease. Low temperature only pushes causative agents to the fact that the disease begins to develop, preventing immunity to prevent the spread of infection. But this is not the main cause of the disease. First of all, remember that you can get infected with meningococcal or viral meningitis only by contacting the vector of the infection. There are also special risk groups, including premature babies, people with developmental disorders of the central nervous system, back and head injuries.

Symptoms of ailment

Meningococcal meningitis is different in that the disease is acute, suddenly a chill appears and the temperature rises. During the first days, cases of hemorrhagic eruptions are not uncommon . Direct meningeal symptoms can be detected already on the first or second day of the disease.

Viral meningitis is dangerous because initially the symptoms characteristic of the virus that caused the disease can come to the fore, and the picture of the inflammation of the cerebral membranes can develop much later. Unlike bacterial meningitis, the temperature in a viral infection rises moderately, rarely above 38 degrees. Meningeal symptoms appear on the third day, sometimes only after a week. Despite the fact that patients complain of a severe headache, other symptoms are not very strong. Serous-viral meningitis is caused by enteroviruses, poliovirus, mumps and a number of other species.

Tuberculous meningitis. Previously, such cases always ended in a fatal outcome. To date, this type of disease is more common, with meningitis being the first sign of tuberculosis. There is a tuberculous meningitis, as a rule, atypical. The disease begins with fever, after several days (from three to ten) meningeal symptoms appear. After two weeks, general cerebral symptoms come to the fore .

How to treat meningitis

Regardless of the age of the patient, the elimination of the disease is performed only in a medical institution, under the supervision of highly qualified specialists. Viral meningitis, like other types of illness, is treated in a comprehensive way, with a large number of medicines, including antiviral drugs and antibiotics. In severe cases, resuscitation procedures are performed. Observing this tactic of treatment, meningitis is cured completely, without any complications.

The only reliable type of prevention is abstinence from visiting crowded premises during the cold season, it is there that the virus is transmitted from sick people to those whose body is not able to cope with the disease.
