Vasodilating drops for nose 'Naphthyzin', instructions for use

Often, when you ask a medicine for a cold in the pharmacy, you get a recommendation to buy "Naphthyzin" in response. Indeed, this tool is inexpensive and has a relatively fast action, which relieves stagnation. However, too often and without reason to use it is not recommended. Some believe that harmless drops for the nose will not harm, not considering that "Naphthyzin" side effects have, like the rest of the medications. To avoid this, you should carefully study the instructions.

The composition of the drug contains naphosaline in various concentrations, thanks to which the action of the drug occurs. This substance is a vasoconstrictor and decongestant for topical application. This effect is achieved due to the effect on the receptors of the nasal mucosa, which reduces the flow of blood. As a result, edema and mucus production decrease, and nasal breathing is facilitated. The drug can last up to 6 hours.

"Naphthyzin" instruction recommends the use, mostly in otorhinolaryngology, for acute, allergic and chronic rhinitis, laryngitis, sinusitis, after diagnostic and surgical manipulations to reduce edema and bleeding. Sometimes the drug is prescribed for allergic conjunctivitis and as a means for slower absorption of local anesthetics is buried in the eyes.

In the drops "Naphthyzin" the composition is as follows. In addition to the active substance, naphazoline, this includes auxiliary agents - boric acid and purified water. If you are sensitive to any of the ingredients, use the drug for treatment is not recommended.

Also, contraindications are high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, thyrotoxicosis. Do not apply "Naphthyzin" in glaucoma and in patients with diabetes mellitus. With the simultaneous use of antidepressants, the drug can bring quite a perceptible injury to health. This is due to the fact that nafazolin enhances their effect, which can lead to unpredictable consequences.

"Naphthyzin" instruction does not recommend the use of children under one year of age, pregnant and lactating mothers. As for toddlers, the effect of the drug has too strong an effect on the children's body, with the possible appearance of various side effects, including poisoning. As for pregnant women, this group did not undergo a study on the tolerability of the drug, but given that it is vasoconstricting, it is possible that this action can spread to the vessels in the placenta, causing hypoxia. In addition, there may be an increase in blood pressure or tachycardia, which is already a problem in this period.

For the treatment of chronic colds, "Naphthyzin" does not recommend the use of the instruction, since this disease presupposes prolonged use of the drug, which can lead to overdose or dependence. It is not recommended to use the drug for more than a week. For babies from a year enough 1-2 drops in each passage no more than 1-2 times a day. Older children and adults are prescribed 2-3 drops up to 4 times a day.

When using the drug "Naphthyzin", the instruction notes the following side effects. Perhaps the appearance of nausea and headache, rapid heartbeat, the appearance of even more swelling.

With prolonged use in large quantities, an overdose is possible, treatment, in most cases, is symptomatic. It can manifest itself in lowering body temperature, increasing blood pressure, nausea. There may also be a psychological or physical dependence on the drug, getting rid of it will be quite difficult.
