Ultrasound of the stomach and abdominal organs

Ultrasound of the stomach or other organs is a common method of detecting a large number of different diseases. Its main principle of operation is the sending of a special sensor of ultrasonic waves, which are reflected from the necessary organ. After that, the monitor displays its image of a certain section.

In the last decade, ultrasound examination of the intestine and stomach was considered impossible, since the technique and equipment for their conduct were imperfect. But fortunately, modern equipment copes well with the task at hand and at the highest level.

Ultrasound is completely safe for human health and a fairly accurate method of diagnosis. Therefore, ultrasound is prescribed for children of all ages and pregnant women.

When there are symptoms of gastroenterological diseases, it is necessary to perform ultrasound of the stomach. There are two methods for performing this procedure.

  1. Internal research performed by the introduction of a special sensor into the stomach. To perform this procedure, it is forbidden to eat food the night before and the morning of the day.

  2. Transabdominal is a study (ultrasound of the stomach), carried out through the skin surface of the abdominal wall. To perform it, it is necessary that the patient's bladder is filled. And for this you need to drink at least 1-1.5 hours before the procedure, not less than a liter of water.

If there are suspicions of different types of formation (malignant or benign), ultrasound of the stomach is performed by the introduction of an internal sensor, since the morphology of the disease with this method of investigation is more clearly expressed.

If necessary, the diagnosis of the remaining internal organs should be used ultrasound of the abdominal cavity. At the same time, their internal location, structure, presence or absence of various formations or chronic diseases, etc. will be assessed.

Uzi of the abdominal cavity: which organs are examined

  • The gall bladder.

  • Spleen.

  • Liver.

  • Vessels.

  • Pancreas.

  • The retroperitoneal space.

The most common reasons why a doctor appoints ultrasound is:

  • Gas formation;
  • Feeling of heaviness in the stomach ;
  • Bitter taste in the mouth;
  • Attacks of pain that have a shingling character;
  • Trauma in the abdominal cavity ;
  • Frequently occurring pains under the rib on the right side;
  • Suspected of having inflammatory or infectious diseases.

Before performing ultrasound, the patient must be properly prepared, otherwise the image quality of the organs may deteriorate and accordingly the result of the study will be incorrect. Therefore it is necessary to adhere to some recommendations: do not eat for 5-6 hours and with increased gas formation, at night drink activated charcoal. Also, it should be borne in mind that before performing the study it is forbidden to smoke, as this leads to a reduction in the gallbladder, and this can distort the results. Typically, the time and cost of doing this research will depend on the number of organs that need to be looked at.
