Ultrasound of the intestine - an accurate diagnosis of pathology at an early stage of its development.

Ultrasound diagnosis (ultrasound) has gained great popularity in the study of internal organs of man. Diagnosis allows us to recognize pathology at early stages of its development. Thanks to this, the treatment is carried out in a timely manner and gives positive results. The procedure of the study is completely painless, does not have a negative effect on the body. It is indicated to patients of any age, even to babies.

Ultrasound of the intestine

It is very difficult to establish an accurate diagnosis without a specific examination of the patient. So, for example, abdominal pain can mean a disease of several organs. The manifestation of the pain syndrome is the reason for the ultrasound of the abdominal cavity. Sometimes spasm occurs due to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques and blood clots in the vessels. In this case, duplex scanning of the abdominal cavity is required. Diagnosis of the intestine is carried out in the following cases:

  • Suspicion of acute appendicitis;

  • Control of removal of the appendix;

  • Complications of appendicitis acute (abscess, perforation);

  • Crohn's disease;

  • Inflammatory processes in the intestine;

  • Intestinal diverticula;

  • Colitis pseudomembranous;

  • Lymphadenitis mesenteric;

  • Diagnosis of primary and, in the stage of metastasis, intestinal tumors;

  • Diagnosis of intussusception ;

  • Diagnosis of the presence of fluids in the abdominal cavity (ascites, urine, bile, hemorrhage);

  • Diagnosis of peritoneal damage.

    Advantages of intestinal ultrasound

    Ultrasound examination has advantages over other diagnostic methods. Bowel loops (thick and thin) are not always sufficiently accessible to inspection. Therefore it is necessary to carry out ultrasound. Its advantages are as follows:

    • The possibility of assessing intestinal peristalsis in real time;

    • The possibility of using duplex scanning for the purpose of more accurate diagnosis;

    • Examination of the outbreak, in which severe pain is noted (according to the complaint of the patient);

    • Use of an additional method of examination, when the doctor presses the device on the painful area of the intestine;

      Diagnosis of acute appendicitis

      If there are suspicions of acute appendicitis, then it is necessary to have an ultrasound of the intestine. The examination provides an opportunity to determine if there is inflammation of the appendix. In addition, the diagnosis of adjacent organs is carried out and the true source of pain is revealed. After all, the symptoms of acute appendicitis can manifest themselves in other diseases. So, for example, spasms can occur with inflammation of the right ovary in a woman. In such a situation, an incorrect diagnosis is often made-acute appendicitis. Also, a major omentum infarction , a twisting of the glandular processes of the ascending part of the large intestine, lead to pain in the lower abdomen on the right.

      Ultrasound of the intestine allows rapid analysis of the complications of acute appendicitis (necrosis, perforation, abscess). In addition, the diagnosis helps to clarify the location of the appendix. The body has several accommodation options. The correct definition leads to a better elimination of the focus of the disease.

      Diagnosis of mesenteric lymphadenitis

      Inflammation of the lymph nodes (mesenteric lymphadenitis) is a common cause of abdominal pain in children. The condition is similar to the development of acute appendicitis. Conducting an ultrasound examination of the intestine facilitates the establishment of an accurate diagnosis. The procedure makes it possible to easily detect enlarged lymph nodes.

      Ultrasound for intestinal tumors

      Intestinal tumors are well diagnosed with ultrasound. It is possible to determine the extent and level of affected areas, the presence or absence of intestinal peristalsis. Duplex scanning allows to diagnose invagination.

      Ultrasound of the intestine. Preparation for the survey

      For the purpose of a more accurate examination it is necessary to prepare for it. To do this, follow the recommendations:

      1. Three days before the survey, black bread, raw vegetables, fruits, milk should be disused.

      2. Within three days before the diagnosis, take medications: "activated carbon", "Espumizan", "Filtrum" (one of the listed), according to the attached annotation to the funds.

      3. In case of disturbances in the process of digestion of food, one should take: "Festal", "Mezim-forte". Dosage should be checked with your doctor.

      4. Strictly two days before ultrasound, put a cleansing enema.

      5. Appear on the diagnosis only on an empty stomach. The last meal is at seven in the evening of the previous day (provided that the examination is scheduled for the morning).

      6. When the behavior of ultrasound in the afternoon - do not eat 6-10 hours before the examination.

        Accurate observance of all recommendations will allow the most correct definition of pathology and start timely treatment.
