Tree Jeed: what is it? Description, features of cultivation and reproduction

More than 50 species of trees and shrubs of the genus Loch, on the territory of Russia grows only one - narrow-leaved. Its garden form is also known as the jihad tree of Bukhara. A decorative-deciduous plant with tasty and juicy fruits is thermophilic and can not be grown anywhere.

Loch narrow-leaved: description

The plant is a bush or a low tree (3-7 m), sometimes with spines. For young shoots is characterized by a silver-steel color, for adults - gray. Leaves are graceful lanceolate-oblong form with petioles, total length 5-8 cm. They have a decorative appearance: the upper part is gray-green, the lower one - silvery-white. In the spring, the tree is covered with many small parsimonious flowers that exude a pleasant and rich flavor. Beautiful foliage, the shape of the crown and the fruit - this is what they grow in the garden for this tree. Jida berries form in August-October. In form they remotely resemble sea buckthorn, but are more elongated and painted in a rich brown color. Especially fruits are popular in the east as a seasoning for a variety of dishes. They contain more than 40% of sugar, including glucose, sucrose and fructose. In addition, there are minerals, organic acids, phosphorus, etc.

Places of growth

All trees and shrubs of the genus Loch are heat-loving plants. The range of their growth is quite wide: Eastern Europe, Asia, Iran. In Russia, they can be found in the Caucasus, in the Altai Territory. The jida tree feels most comfortable in a desert climate, near the banks of rivers and lakes. In the natural habitat, it forms dense thickets. To the soil, the plant is absolutely unpretentious, resistant to drought and hot winds. Carries a saline soil, with abundant falling asleep sand begins to form additional subordinate roots.

The tree is excellent for growing in culture. Resistant to gassed air, dust, soot, it takes root not only in the gardens, but also in urban parks. You can create a hedge from it, because it can easily be pruned, early starts to bear fruit and blossom (from the 3-5th year of planting). The developed strong root system makes it possible to use jida tree as a waterproof soil-restorative plant.

Selecting a seat and landing

In the gardens, the Bukhara jid is the most common. The tree is unpretentious, drought-resistant and photophilous, is an excellent honey. Choose for him solar areas. To the plants, the plant is undemanding, has the ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen like bean plants. On the roots there are special nodule bacteria. In this regard, it develops well even on the poorest soils and in ecologically unfavorable localities. However, for a decorative look, lush flowering and good fruiting, it is best to "pamper" the tree. Jida is responsive to well-drained soils with a high limestone content, sour soil must be limed one year before the proposed planting.

The survival rate of seedlings depends largely on the quality of the material for planting. It should be remembered when buying a plant that with a stem diameter of 5-8 mm in height it should be 30-50 cm, with strong, not dry roots. Planting pit is prepared with a depth of about 50-60 cm and twice as wide as the width. At the bottom pour drainage (pebbles, stones, expanded clay, etc.), then fall asleep with a prepared fertile soil. When planting the tree, the root collar should be cut to 3-5 cm. To protect the roots from overheating, excessive growth of weeds, rapid evaporation of moisture, the circumferential circle is mulched with a chip, sawdust, etc.

Tree Jeed: how to grow on a garden plot?

Planting a tree is only the beginning. Further, it requires close attention and care - simple, but permanent.

A year later for the young plant should be the first early spring fertilizing. To do this, use a nutritional mixture of wood ash (100-150 g), compost (8-10 kg) and superphosphate (30 g). In the middle of summer, when the plant is already forming fruits, it is necessary to pour it on infusion of mullein.

Loosening the soil is shallow to avoid damaging the root system close to the surface. Despite the fact that the jida tree, the photo of which is presented in the article, tolerates the drought quite calmly, it still needs abundant watering, if there is a long hot weather. The water consumption is 30-40 liters per 1 sq. Km. M.

Pruning up to the age of ten requires only sanitary, and then rejuvenating. The first year of growth, a tree for winter should be sheltered, in subsequent - only slightly sprinkled with sawdust or needles trunk up to a height of 10 cm.
