Treatment, causes and signs of rotovirus infection

It would seem that, like an infant, surrounded by practically sterile purity and eating mother's milk, can signs of rotovirus infection appear? Such a disease has another name - a disease of dirty hands. But where can it come from a newborn who lies in a crib or is in the hands of loving parents who care about his health?

Causes of rotavirus infection

The peculiarity of this disease is that the signs of rotovirus infection in older children and in adults can hardly be manifested and cause only a slight indigestion. However, one should know that the contagiousness (infectiousness) of this infection is very high. It is worth the sister or brother to touch the crib with unwashed hands - and now the baby has a rotavirus infection. To get into the body, it can through contaminated food, water, contact with vomit or calves. Therefore, if the house is sick, cleaning should be done very carefully. Signs of rotovirus infection are very common in newborns. Therefore, blame yourself for negligence is not worth it. However, treatment should be started as soon as possible.

Rotovirus infection: signs, treatment

With this disease, catarrhal and intestinal symptoms are combined. First, the baby raises the temperature, almost immediately to 38-39 ºС, then there are sore throat, runny nose, diarrhea and vomiting. Like common influenza, this ailment proceeds rapidly, but quickly. For 3-4 days the condition of the child should be normalized: the temperature decreases, and vomiting stops. But the quickened liquid stool will remain for at least a week.

Principles of treatment of the disease

It is very important to comply with the drinking regime, because any intestinal infections primarily provoke dehydration, as with vomiting, the body loses a significant amount of fluid and mineral salts. If the baby is breastfed and does not consume anything other than milk, during the period of illness it is necessary to offer him additional fluid in the intervals between the feedings. It can be water, compote, herbal tea. The volume of fluid entering the body should equal its loss. After each episode of diarrhea or vomiting, the baby should drink at least 50 ml of liquid. It is recommended to offer a small drink (3-5 ml) every 5-10 minutes, because large volumes will not be absorbed. If the child refuses any drink, and the vomiting does not stop, then it will require infusion therapy - a dropper.

Medication Therapy

Naturally, the first signs of rotovirus infection - this is an occasion for an immediate call to a doctor. The most optimal treatment for the disease is a copious, if possible vitaminized, drink. But the pediatrician can prescribe medication. First of all, sorbents. With their help, toxins in the intestines are absorbed, and diarrhea gradually stops. If the baby is heavily sucked because of a cold, then vasoconstrictive drops for infants will be needed. The disease will pass by itself, as soon as the body develops protective antibodies. Therefore, antibiotics do not help here. They are appointed only if there is a suspicion of a bacterial infection.

During the period of illness the child especially needs mother's attention and love. It is necessary as often as possible to take the baby in his arms, gently communicate and distract from unpleasant sensations. Care in combination with properly organized treatment will do their thing, and the baby will soon recover.
