Toyota-Selika: reviews. Toyota Celica: specifications, photos, prices

The Toyota Selika car, a photo of which is located below, was the result of the Japanese designers' desire to strengthen the popularity of sports cars manufactured by the company in the late sixties of the last century. Then it was decided to launch a budget version of the modification 2000GT on the conveyor. According to the idea of the company's managers, the main requirement that was put forward for the novelty was to be its availability for people with an average income.

Development and debut

The development of the new Toyota-Selika car project was very quick. In October 1970, during the exhibition in Tokyo, the Japanese company demonstrated to the public a pre-series version of the sports model. In literal translation from Latin, its name means "heavenly, divine." The choice of such a word for the role of the name of the machine was by no means accidental. The fact that the representatives of the Japanese manufacturer counted on the popularity of the model in young people, whose age was up to thirty years. In addition, consumer feedback was taken into account. "Toyota-Selika", based on marketing research, was to conquer the image of an affordable "as the sky" car with excellent dynamic characteristics.

Run on the conveyor

In 1970, the process of serial production of the model began. It was based on the platform A-20 with rear-wheel drive. The car was produced in the back compartment. A year later the first copy of the elevator was assembled. Both variants had a similar appearance, in which a trapezoidal radiator grille, round twin front and square taillights, and a front steel bumper made in the shape of a U were distinguished. In 1972, the designers slightly changed the exterior of the model, and also moved closer to the rear seats of the gas tank And its neck. Under the hood of all these versions was a motor volume of 1.6 or 2 liters. In the role of transmission there could be a "mechanics" for five steps or a three-speed automatic box.

The first major modernization

In 1975, the engineers of the manufacturer decided to update the model. About this need testified and leave the buyers feedback. "Toyota Selika" as a result of this has undergone significant changes, which affected not only the exterior design of the car, but its interior, and technical characteristics. In the exterior, the front bumper of the car was modified, as well as the radiator grille, which was transformed from a trapezoidal into a rectangular one. In the interior of the modernization the steering wheel, the center console and the form of the seats were subjected. The model received three variants of power plants, the volume of which was 1.4, 1.9 and 2.2 liters. In the case of the most powerful of the mentioned motors, ventilation holes were provided on the hood. As for the transmission, they all worked together with a four-stage automatic. Plus, the model has acquired a new platform - A-35. Its wheelbase, compared with the previous version, increased by 100 mm.

The second generation

The next generation of the model was put into production in 1977. The author of the external appearance of the novelty became the famous American automobile designer David Stolleri. The tuning of the Toyota-Selika of the second generation, in comparison with the previous version, was not very significant: the car inherited a lot. At the same time, individual units and units underwent revolutionary changes. First of all, it concerns a new radiator grill, over which the hood loomed, and also placed in rectangular niches of the front headlights. Both bumper models have become completely covered with rubber. The exterior rear-view mirrors moved to the side doors (previously they were on the wings). Among other things, on the second-generation machines there were medium racks. In addition to the previous two body variants, the novelty was also produced in the form of a cabriolet.

The third generation

The next version of the Toyota-Selika model was born at the end of the summer of 1981. The machine has received a new design both inside and outside. The car was produced on the basis of the A-60 platform in three body versions. The novelty received a longer hood and a large windshield. Due to the greater inclination of the front pillars , aerodynamic performance has improved significantly. Two years later, Japanese designers slightly changed the model. The key innovation in this became the retractable front lights. In addition to them, the arrangement of the instruments on the panel has changed, the quality of the materials for interior decoration has improved, and there have also been elaborated armchairs. The new Toyota Selika was equipped with advanced power plants from the previous generation, in which injectors replaced carburetors. In addition, the automatic transmission of three stages, which was mentioned earlier, was withdrawn from production.

The fourth generation

The front-drive platform T-160 became the base for cars of this model of the fourth generation. The first copies came off the assembly line in 1985. Here, both technical components and design have undergone drastic changes. The sharp lines on the body have gone down in history, and they were replaced by soft smooth contours. Front folding lights Japanese engineers placed on the hood a little higher than before. The average rack was generally dismantled. Thus, the designers returned to the original version of the car. On the other hand, it significantly improved the visibility, which was confirmed by numerous positive reviews. "Toyota Selika" fourth generation also received a modification with four-wheel drive. In this case, the name GT-Four also appeared in its name.

Cars were equipped with a two-liter engine with a turbine, while the previous gearbox was upgraded for them.

Fifth generation

In 1989, the fifth generation of the model was released. It was built on the T-180 platform and got a round body that positively affected the aerodynamic performance. A spoiler appeared behind it, which stylishly connected the ends of the racks. Designers of the car have updated the radiator grille for it and installed a bumper with vertical partitions. During the year Toyota-Selika was manufactured in the form of a lift and a coupe, after which another type of body was added to them - a cabriolet.

The Sixth Generation

October 1993 was marked by the birth of the sixth generation of the model, based on the T-200 platform. The retractable headlights are a thing of the past and replaced by separate circular optics. In the central part of the front bumper, a kind of "shark teeth" appeared. On the hood of the car, the designers installed arcs designed to cover the headlights. The model was completed with three variants of engines, the volume of which was 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2 liters. They functioned in combination with a mechanical box for five speeds or with an automatic transmission for four transmissions.

Latest version

In 1999, the debut of the last, the seventh generation, of the Toyota-Selika cars was held. The characteristics of the model from a technological point of view are quite decent. In particular, under the hood of the car installed 1.8-liter engine, equipped with a turbine. Its maximum power was 140 or 190 horsepower. The units worked with mechanics for five or six speeds, and also with a four-speed automatic. The maximum speed of the car was 225 km / h.

In the interior it is necessary to distinguish a regular steering wheel consisting of three spokes. The central console has a conical shape, and the speedometer on the instrument panel is located in the center. Standard armchairs can not boast a clearly expressed lateral and lumbar support. In general, car owners often independently transform the gray interior.

The car was completely renovated body. On the front here designers have installed head triangular headlights, which with their sharp ends "reached" almost to the center of the wing. Quite interesting was the stylistic decision associated with the integration of the bumper and hood into one. Compared to the previous version, the roof became more sloping. On both sides of the body Toyota-Selika got stylish lines. The top stretches from the exterior mirrors to the boot lid, and the lower one extends from the end of the front wing to the top of the rear. A model based on the T-230 platform was built. In April 2006, the manufacturer announced the termination of the model.

Results

In conclusion, it should be noted that officially this car was not imported into our country. Despite this, it is very popular among fans of sports Japanese cars. In this regard, on the domestic roads you can find cars that are representatives of all seven generations. As for the cost of Toyota-Selika, the price of the car on the Russian secondary market is in the range of 150 to 500 thousand rubles, depending on mileage, year of production and condition.
