Tomato "Volgograd": features of variety and agricultural technology

A lot of gardening lovers try to grow all kinds of vegetables in their beds. These are usually different cultures, but special attention has always been paid to tomatoes. Red, very tasty fruit has always served as a decoration for any table, and can be served all year round in various forms. Who will refuse the ripe tomatoes? Or maybe canned? Or is it better to have a salad? But first you need to grow them. Of all the variety of seedlings, the sort of tomato "Volgograd" occupies a special place.

Creating a variety

In 1973, at the Volgograd Experimental Station, Nikolai Ivanovich Chulkov brought out a new variety of tomatoes. The peculiarity of this species is its unpretentious qualities, because of which the tomato "Volgograd early-ripening" will be able to grow even a beginner gardener.

Key Features

The main advantage is the rapid growth and maturation of the fruits of culture. The first tomatoes can be eaten approximately on hundredth or one hundred tenth day. The culture is very remarkable: its first flowers are laid over the seventh leaf, and then through 1-2. In each brush there can be up to nine fruits. Thus, the tomato "Volgograd" can reach high yields - up to eight kilograms from one meter. As it is easy to guess from the name, the variety is considered to be early. The plant itself reaches a height of 25 to 35 centimeters, and in just 15 days of fruiting it ripens from a quarter to half of all tomatoes. This quality is very useful both for growing in personal needs, and for commercial production.

Agrotechnics

Tomato "Volgograd" prefers fertile soils and it feels wonderful on places where onions were grown, cabbage or beans. Perfectly reproduces by means of seedlings, seeds for which it is worth sowing in the open ground in the first quarter of April. If you plan to sow in protected land, then you can and two or three weeks earlier. Given the small size of the seeds, there is no point in digging them deeply, an acceptable depth of 0.5-1 cm. The seedlings already prepared are planted in the soil according to the following scheme: one plant is given a piece of a 30 x 70 centimeter bed. Due to the unpretentiousness of the variety, the tomato "Volgograd" can be grown both in a greenhouse and on open soil, and it also perfectly tolerates condensed plantings.

In the southern regions of Russia such tomatoes can be grown without seedlings. In this case, the seeds must be sown to a depth of 5-6 centimeters, and the soil temperature should be at least ten degrees. After 7-10 days you will see the first shoots. Special care will not be required, it is enough to do the usual weeding and loosening, if necessary, you can feed and water with warm water.

To increase fertility and reduce the need for irrigation, you can also use mulching soil. Mulch like a blanket wraps the lower part of the plant, which allows you to reduce the evaporation of moisture from the surface of the ground during the day and avoid hypothermia at night. It is also good to use natural compost as this material: the plant will then receive additional nutrients, and the weeds will be much harder to grow.

Marketable condition

Tomatoes of this species have a flat round shape, red color, smooth skin, possibly ribbed in places. Tomato "Volgograd" on average weighs 80-100 grams and has a 5-7-chamber structure. The sugar content in the fetus is about three percent, and in combination with the raised dry part (5.86-6.2%) allows to use tomatoes for commercial purposes. They are perfect for both salads and canning.

The variety has an average resistance to most diseases of tomatoes, it is transported perfectly and can be stored for a long time. Thanks to these qualities, tomato has occupied a competitive niche in the country's markets for many years.
