The most famous cocktails of our time: a cocktail of Manhattan, a cocktail of Silarita, a cocktail of Blue Curacao

Translated from English, the word "cocktail" is literally translated as "tail of a cock". And we know it as a mixed drink containing several ingredients. Until now, it is not known why such a type of drink has such a strange name. Some philologists say that the word is associated with the traditions of cockfighting, when roosters were given mixtures of alcoholic and bitter infusions - cocktails. Others suggest that the word denotes a special kind of drink, which was once used to decorate with feathers from the tail of roosters. But anyway, today the word "cocktail" has become firmly established and is no longer perceived as a purely alcoholic beverage. Now the composition of the cocktail includes a variety of ingredients - fruit and vegetable juices, milk, cream and ice cream, and, of course, a wide variety of alcohol products - from vodka and rum to liqueurs and tonics. In the vast majority of cases, alcoholic cocktails are prepared with the addition of ice, and non-alcoholic ones - with sugar syrup.

Perhaps one of the most famous alcoholic cocktails is the Manhattan cocktail, which by popularity is second only to Martini. This drink was one of the first mixed cocktails, in which the composition of the modifier began to use vermouth. Modern cocktail Manhattan has a fairly simple composition - vermouth, whiskey and bitter. And, of all the existing types of whiskey correctly use American rye, which is also called Canadian whiskey or bourbon. In Russia, the Manhattan cocktail has gained popularity thanks to the works of Earl Stanley Gardner and a number of Hollywood westerns. Since then, it has been transformed into a thousand different modes, and now there are a huge number of variations of this cocktail, for example, Naked Manhattan, Perfect Manhattan, Brandy Manhattan, Cuban Manhattan and others. The cocktail of Manhattan is usually decorated with a cocktail cherry, which is a kind of a business card of this drink. And to decorate the Dry and Perfect Manhattan species, the curl of a rind or a slice of lemon is traditionally used.
