The laptop battery does not charge

The laptop, as a stand-alone (portable) computer, is equipped with a battery capable of multiple recharging, that is, a battery. It requires a large specific capacity and tightness. These requirements are currently best satisfied by lithium-ion batteries. Even in small devices, such as cell phones, power consumption is large enough, and lithium batteries provide them with energy for a long time.

When the laptop is in operation, it maintains a constant balance between mains and battery power. This deals with a special driver, which is in any OS: Windows, Linux, etc. Control over the degree of charge of the battery is conducted by different methods. There are reasons why an objective assessment of the state of chemical batteries is impossible in principle. Therefore, several indirect methods are used. The easiest way is to measure the voltage at the terminals. A more perfect method is to calculate the amount of electricity that has "left" into the battery, in pendants or ampere-hours. A combination of these methods can be used, plus a statistical algorithm, which can be called the "degree of wear". Manufacturers for their batteries set a coefficient, the value of which gradually decreases over time. This is reflected in the degree of charge.

If the laptop battery does not charge , this does not mean that it is necessarily faulty. The system, that is, the power driver, can calculate that it is already charged, and will show the icon "100%". Disconnect the computer from the mains and work on the battery until it is completely discharged. When the power supervisors (special chips that monitor the healthy power supply to the processor, etc.) will give a critical signal, the driver will write down the entire battery discharge, and then prepare the system for an emergency shutdown.

Turn on the machine again on the network, before proceeding to boot. Look at the indicator located somewhere on the rim of the notebook case (not far from the power connector). If the laptop battery is not charging, you will not see the indicator light. Usually, when the discharge is deep, it glows yellowish. Take out the battery and inspect its appearance. Clean the contacts and make sure that the battery is not swelling anywhere and does not crack. Insert it and start again. If again Do not charge the battery on the laptop, then this may be a circuit charge problem in the computer itself. For diagnostics try to take another battery or put this on another laptop. This exclusion method will accurately show the reason. Most likely, if the laptop battery is not charging, then it should not and give a charge, in case of its malfunction.

If the process has started, wait until the blue indicator light appears. Then you can start the car, not "stealing" the power unit with a double load - in fact the battery continues to be charged. But now it works in the recharge mode and takes less current.

Look at the power monitor in the system. For Windows, Linux GNOME or KDE, in general, any "Desktop", there is a small icon with a hint that will show the status: "charge / work from the network" and the percentage of completeness of the charge. If the laptop battery is not fully charged For a long time, say, only 96%, then there can be an intense load on the computer.

Usually this happens when the laptop is used in several directions at once. For example, listen to music and play, and at this time, still downloading a movie. And you notice that the processor is buzzing, the disk is warming up, the fans are blowing at full power. But, maybe, the reason for everything is the elementary aging of the battery, and after a while it will be necessary to change it.

Thus, if the laptop battery does not charge, do not worry, but perform the simple manipulations that were described above.
