Setting up OBS: instructions, recommendations. Stream setup OBS Dota 2

OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) - a small simple program, created specifically for broadcasts. With the help of this utility you can display your computer screen and events occurring on it to a wide audience. These broadcasts are called streams. OBS has become very popular and popular in the gaming industry. Broadcasting the game process attracts a large audience, especially when it comes to e-sports disciplines such as Dota 2, LoL, CS GO and others.

Thanks to OBS and several other similar programs absolutely any person can become a streamer. Some become professionals in their business, or stream for pleasure. If you want to try your hand at conquering an audience, this article will help you prepare the software for streaming.

First step

First you need to install OBS. The program is freely available on the Internet. Everyone can download and use it. The next step after installation is to configure OBS.

Before starting the setup of the program, you need to decide on the platform on which the broadcasts will be conducted. At the moment, the choice of special sites is quite wide, both foreign and Russian. The largest site is Twitch.tv. Of the Russians - GoodGame, CyberGame.

check in

Creating a channel on one of the services is reduced to the usual registration on the site. Then you can become a streamer. An example is the setup program for the platform Twitch.tv.

Second step

After opening the program, you should immediately go to the "Settings" section. It is from there that the streaming begins. OBS is a fairly understandable and friendly utility, so it should not be a problem even for novice users.

All the basic parameters for the stream are found in the "Coding" section. These settings will affect the quality of the image. Platform "Twitch" requires a constant bit rate, so you need to put a daw on the CBR. The higher the maximum bitrate, the better the picture quality will be given by OBS. Setting for Dota 2 assumes a sufficiently high bitrate, because the game is dynamic, and at low quality the image will "fall apart" into squares.

Third step

The next tab is "Translation". This point is also important. It contains data for communication with the Twitch.tv channel, which was registered a little earlier. In the column "Stream Key" it is necessary to copy the key, which is in the private office of "Twich". In the "Broadcast Service" line, Twitch.tv must be selected. Setting up OBS for Stream from Russia or CIS countries implies the choice of any European server (with the EU prefix), in order to avoid lags and slow connection speeds.

The next two tabs are "Video" and "Audio". In the "Video" you can choose the resolution in which the game will be broadcast, and the video card that will be responsible for the broadcast (actual for those who have several video cards in one computer). More subtle settings are best done after trial broadcasts, when the problematic computer locations and the specifics of the game itself become clear.

For a weak computer

In the "Advanced" section, the OBS configuration is completed. For a weak computer, under "CPU preset", select the appropriate value. Ultrafast is suitable for very weak PCs. Fast and further - already for modern and top configurations. Honestly, for a stream in normal quality with a high bit rate and resolution, you will need at least a computer with a good processor. The whole load of responsibility for image processing lies exactly on it, and already in the second place - on the video card and RAM.

Although somehow help in this situation can reduce the bit rate and low graphics settings in the "Dot" itself. This can reduce the CPU load. But, since DOta 2 is a dynamic game with a bunch of events per minute and effects, streaming from weak computers does not look very attractive. The picture is smeared, constant friezes and frame losses are observed.

But, in any case, you can squeeze the maximum performance and image quality on the stream using test broadcasts and long digests in the OBS settings.

The fourth step

Setting up OBS is over - it's time to start studying the tools for bringing the game to the screen and starting the broadcast itself. The main OBS screen contains the following elements: preview window, Scenes, Sources and stream control buttons. Before you start, you need to start Dota 2 and collapse it. Now we need to understand what functions the Scenes perform, and which Sources perform. A set is a collection of sources. Sources can be games, webcams, chat window, etc. All these elements are added to one scene and when selected, appear on the screen at the same time. Thus, you can create many different scenes for different games or situations, for example, to pause on the stream, choose a beautiful screensaver and include it with one click in the "OPS".

After defining scenes, you can start the broadcast by clicking on the button in the control panel with the same name. Above the controls are the microphone volume and game volume scales, which can be adjusted independently of each other.

After the broadcast starts in the preview window, you can see from the side what the stream looks like. At the bottom of the program window there is information on connection quality and frame loss. To achieve a stable connection without loss will help a good Internet and competent tuning. OBS for convenience can be displayed on the second monitor (if available) so as not to minimize the "DotA" and not interrupt the game process. It's unlikely that viewers will like the constant pauses in the broadcast and the abstraction of the streamer itself.

Internet Requirements

For streaming, you need not only a powerful PC, but also a fast Internet connection. It should be noted that the download speed for broadcast is not at all important. The most important thing is high speed of feedback. For stable management of the stream, without lags and loss of frames, a recoil rate of at least 10 Mb / s is recommended.

Setting up the OBS Dota 2 Stream is a simple process. Anyone can try their hand at conducting broadcasts on any of the platforms. The main thing is to remember that the availability of technical support is only half the case. The second half is the ability to play DotA and be a good leader.
