The Jewish population of Israel: the milestone of 6 million people was overcome

According to available data, for the first time the Jewish population of the State of Israel overcame a mark of six million people. For sure, everyone will agree that this figure is very symbolic, since it is six million people, according to experts, who died during the Holocaust.

According to representatives of the Central Statistical Unit, at the moment the population of Israel, according to some information, is about 7.98 million, and 75% are Jews. About 20% of this figure is Arabs, and 5% fall on other nationalities.

It is important to note that before the Holocaust, 18 million Jews were registered on the territory of our planet. Unfortunately, after this tragic event, only slightly more than 13 million remained alive. Today, the population of Israel is gradually recovering, but this process is rather slow.

According to Anita Shapira (professor of Jewish history at Tel Aviv University), of course, six million is a "very significant figure."

Abraham Burg is convinced that the modern state of Israel, and, especially, the population of Israel is not inherently revenge for the Holocaust. Israel, first of all, is an autonomous state entity. Of course, every tragedy of the past is stored in the memory of every Jew, however, it should not determine the modern policy of the state. In addition, Burg claims that today Israel is not six million Jews, but a full-fledged state, whose citizens are, as already mentioned, about eight million people. Absolutely every citizen of the state of Israel, whose population, as already noted above, is very diverse, should have rights not depending on religion or race.

According to the information published by the Statistical Division of Palestine, by 2016 the number of Arabs in Israel itself and in the nearby Palestinian territories will be equal to the number of Jews, but already in 2020 will exceed it. It is important to note that, to date, about 5.8 million Palestinians live in the Gaza Strip, Israel and East Jerusalem, and there are about 11.6 million Palestinians in the world.

Moreover, the birth rate among Palestinians is slightly higher than the birth rate of Jews in Israel. For example, in 2009, the Palestinian population was 4.4, and the Israeli population could only boast a figure of 3.

Of course, such a demographic situation causes a lot of disagreement in the society. For example, Israeli Jews oppose the creation of a bi-national state. Although this decision is proposed as the main for the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The predominance of the Arab majority in this state in practice will mean the imminent end of Israel as a Jewish state.

It is clear that the Jewish population of Israel has increased several times since the official proclamation of independence, which took place in 1948. At that time, many Palestinians fled from these lands, leaving their homes. How this situation will develop in the future, only time will show.
