The drug "Losartan": instructions for use

The drug "Losartan potassium" belongs to the category of antihypertensive agents. Synonymous with medications are medicines "Lorist", "Cosaar".

Characterizing the drug "Losartan", the instruction indicates its ability to reduce peripheral vascular resistance, the content of aldosterone and norepinephrine in the blood, pressure in a small circle. The drug also has a diuretic effect. The drug "Lozartan" prevents the development of hypertrophy in the myocardium, increases the tolerance of patients to exercise on the background of heart failure in a chronic form.

A single dose of the drug causes a maximum hypotensive effect after six hours. During the day, the effect gradually decreases. The most stable hypotensive effect is observed after three to six weeks from the beginning of treatment.

The drug "Losartan" (reviews of specialists point to this) reduces by one third the risk of hospitalization for exacerbations of chronic heart failure.

The drug is prescribed for arterial hypertension (increased pressure of a persistent nature). The tool "Lozartan" instruction recommends taking in order to reduce the likelihood of cardiovascular disease and death in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy and hypertension. Also, the drug is indicated in patients with diabetes mellitus of the second degree with proteinuria and with heart failure in a chronic form in the absence of therapeutic effect from the use of ACE inhibitors.

The daily dosage for arterial hypertension, with diabetes mellitus of the second degree - 50 mg. This amount (if necessary and on the advice of a doctor) can be doubled. In this case, it is recommended to divide the dosage into two doses.

If the patient takes diuretics in high doses, the amount of the drug "Losartan" should be reduced to 25 mg per day.

In the presence of chronic heart failure, the initial dosage of the drug "Losartan" is 12.5 mg per day. Usually, the increase in dosage is doubled at intervals of a week (12.5 mg, then 25 mg, further 50 mg).

To reduce the risk of cardiovascular pathologies and death in hypertrophy in the left ventricle and chronic heart failure, the initial amount of the drug "Losartan" is 50 mg once a day. Further, it is recommended to increase the dosage in half (without changing the number of doses) or additional administration of hydrochlorothiazide.

To the contraindications to the drug "Losartan" the instruction refers to hypersensitivity, children's age (to eighteen years). No medication is given to pregnant or lactating women. If found in the patient during pregnancy treatment, the drug must be immediately discontinued.

Caution should be given to patients with an arterial hypothesis, dehydration, hyperkalemia, hepatic or renal insufficiency.

When taking "Lozartan" means dizziness, insomnia, fatigue, rhinitis, bronchitis, dyspnea, the occurrence of infections in the upper respiratory tract. The use of the drug can provoke abdominal pain, constipation, nausea, flatulence, vomiting, and an upset of appetite. There may also be pain in the back, legs, chest, cramps, fibromyalgia and other conditions.
