The events of the late 1940s (the threat to the sovereignty of Greece, Norway and Turkey, the coup in Czechoslovakia, the blockade of Berlin (the West)) heated the already complicated international situation. The only way out here could be the union, which followed the Brussels Treaty (between Luxembourg, Great Britain, Belgium, France, the Netherlands). It was a kind of common defense system.

In 1949, after negotiations with Canada and the United States, another treaty was signed, the Washington Treaty. Now there were twelve countries in the system: Belgium, Denmark, Great Britain, Italy, Iceland, Luxembourg, Canada, Norway, Netherlands, USA, Portugal, France (which left the Alliance in 1967 due to internal crisis). Actually, this was the creation of NATO (04/04/1949). At that time, the organization had 12 countries. The creation of NATO by this time has not yet been completed. In 1952, Greece joined with Turkey, in 1955 - Germany, in 1982 - Spain, in 1999 - the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, in 2004 - all of the Baltic States, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Romania, Slovenia.

The creation of NATO was to guarantee both the freedom and security of the incoming members both in Europe and in North America. And what about the rest of the state? And for all the rest NATO education was to become a formidable authority, which has an unshakable force and unquestioned authority.

But this requires an impressive apparatus. And he has NATO. The military-political bloc, thanks to the vast territory of 28 countries, has all the necessary infrastructure and human resources. Some military experts argue that NATO's structure is clumsy and obsolete.

Decide for yourself: in the organization of hundreds of departments and various committees with numerous training centers. Only in the apparatus of the Alliance about 12 000 people, an impressive part of the staff from which a place in national governments is determined. In the leadership of the highest military apparatus, most of them are Americans.

In the governing body (the Council of NATO) - ambassadors of states, permanent representatives. In the Council there is a clear structure of meetings: the level of ambassadors - once a week; Level of foreign ministers - every 6 months. The heads of the states that are members of the Alliance gather when necessary (as the case may be).

The leadership was given to the Secretary General of the Alliance. Only here, in the highest bloc, there is real political power and only here it is allowed to make decisions about the strategy and tactics of NATO. For example, let us recall: it was the NATO Council that announced the beginning of the Vietnam and Korean wars ; Here was given the go-ahead for the invasion of Iraq, Libya, Yugoslavia; Here the occupation of Afghanistan was approved. The payment for such decisions became millions of lives ...

But within its walls, NATO strictly observes democratic principles, all members are equal here, only a majority of votes are taken into account when making decisions.

The function of the Defense Planning Committee is to ensure security. This body, called KPO, has equal rights with the Council. It meets twice a year, consists of the defense ministers of the countries that are members of the Alliance. The purpose of the meetings is to assess the capabilities and forces of states that threaten the UN countries, develop plans for further action.

The highest military authority is the military committee (the chiefs of the general staffs of the armies). In their competence - the infrastructure of the Alliance (bases, warehouses, airfields, communication systems). By the way, in Europe only the American general is appointed supreme commander-in-chief. In its submission - three regions: South European, North European, Central European. And this is reflected in the laws of NATO.

In addition, NATO includes a group of nuclear deterrence and rapid reaction, a military staff (international) and an economic committee.

Supervises the units of the Secretary General. This is the face of the Alliance with external contacts of NATO, and the defendant, and the main speaker. In submission - a huge staff (of course, international).

The history is repeatedly proved: any empire (Mongolian, Roman, Soviet Union) will reach its maximum development and will be compelled to enter into numerous wars, because it will no longer be able to feed the innumerable army by its own forces. But sooner or later, it either falls from the onslaught of other, new forces, or falls apart from the inability to control a cumbersome mechanism. The creation of NATO has become the formation of an aggressive empire, endlessly hungry and endlessly thirsty, increasing the capacity for new military operations.
