The brewing company created safe for marine animals holders for beer

When you open a cold can of beer, the last thing you want to think about is that the plastic holder from it can eventually wrap around the neck of a gull or get stuck in the stomach of a turtle. Therefore, one of the breweries came up with a brilliant solution.

Production features

The brewery, located in Florida (USA), began to produce completely edible holders for six cans of beer. These holders make from the by-products of the brewing process, such as wheat and barley. This makes them completely biodegradable, and at the same time they are as strong as plastic counterparts.

So far, the company has created several hundred holders. Nevertheless, it is planned to produce 400,000 holders for cans of beer every month. Moreover, the company's board expressed the hope that other large breweries and producers of other beverages will follow suit and create their own can holders.

Problems of the World Ocean

In many countries, the law requires that such holders are 100% photodegradable. Although this has somewhat eased the problem for marine life, experts estimate that about one million birds and 100,000 marine mammals and turtles are still dying from such holders each year after they swallow or fall into such a trap.

Nevertheless, the world's ocean is increasingly contaminated with plastics, which affects marine animals, so the invention of fully decomposable packaging is always welcome.
