Syndrome of computer vision: a disease of scientific and technological progress?

If we are to be honest before the end, then the syndrome of computer vision as such is not a disease. In the medical list of diseases there is no such definition. But the life of modern people is subject to completely different laws, principles and conditions. And so, practicing ophthalmologists are increasingly hearing from their patients complaints of chronic fatigue, dryness, stitching in the eyes and, as a consequence, periodic headaches, from year to year.

The reason for this condition is the long work behind the computer monitor, day by day, month by month. And so in medical practice a completely new concept was formed in the environment of eye diseases, which is referred to as computer visual syndrome or computer fatigue syndrome (Computer Vision Syndrome).

It is provoked by the appearance of the peculiarities of a person's work behind an electronic machine, when elementary rules of occupational hygiene are not observed , which they tried to impart to us from the school's bench. Inadequate lighting, incorrect placement of the monitor, inconsistency of the height of the table and chair to the growth of a person. All these factors lead to increased eye strain. In addition to everything during work at the computer, a person has to carefully fix the view on the monitor, because of what the number of blinks is dramatically reduced. As a result, the cornea dries up, which leads to rubbing, dryness and reddening of the eyes. And the constant flickering of the screen, which is characteristic of electron-beam monitors, provokes unnecessary tension of the muscles contracting the lens of the eye. Therefore, there is a double vision in the eyes, myopia develops.

The results of various studies in this area, alas, are not comforting: about 75% of all users are subject to similar conditions. They have common signs of a vision disorder, redness of the eyes, involuntary frequent blinking. Users note that they are constantly haunted by the sensation of a foreign body in the eyes, whether they are mote, or sand, eyes seem to burn and want to keep them closed. Also, it is not uncommon for states where it becomes difficult to focus the view at one point, the letters on the monitor begin to blur. In addition, all the above symptoms are added to the pain in the neck, back, waist, because the person takes the wrong posture while working at the computer.

Unfortunately, the syndrome of computer vision is not perceived by most people as a problem, for which it is worth turning to an ophthalmologist. And often they bring the situation to the extreme and come to the clinic only when the eyes constantly, for a long time, look inflamed and reddened. When the vision deteriorates sharply both when reading, and when looking into the distance. If you do not take the appropriate measures in time and do not go to a doctor, the computer vision syndrome can develop into myopia, provoke a spasm of accommodation of the eye.

Treatment of the syndrome is complex. First, the patient is assigned special eye drops, which prevent the drying of the cornea of the eye. For example, "Lacrisifi", "Octillia". This means can be used up to 10 times a day. Inside are prescribed drugs that improve the function of vision, nourish the eyeball, strengthen its blood vessels, for example, "Myrtleene Forte" in capsules. Possible reception of biological supplements with lutein, positively acting on the retina. Protection of the eyes from the computer can be carried out with the help of special glasses or lenses.

It should be noted that to cure the syndrome of computer vision with the help of only medications is impossible. A person's personal efforts are necessary, which is simply obliged to take care of the proper organization of their own workplace. In addition, it is recommended to make regular breaks in working with the computer, to be distracted by other activities that are not associated with unnecessary strain on the eyes. It is necessary to purchase an LCD monitor for your electronic machine and make sure that it is installed no closer than 60 centimeters from the working person and 8 cm below its level of vision. It is useful to perform a small set of exercises for the eyes, rotate the eyeballs left and right, look up and down and concentrate the view alternately on a nearby and distant subject.
