Symptoms of gonorrhea

One of the most common venereal diseases is gonorrhea, or, as it is called, the gonorrhea. The disease is infectious, affecting the urino-genital organs, rectum, oral cavity and eye mucosa. The causative agent of this disease is the gonococcus. Symptoms of gonorrhea manifest themselves quite quickly. Basically, this disease is transmitted through sexual intercourse, usually random. There are cases of infection and the way of life, often through a towel, underwear, loofah and so on.

After infection, a person usually has an incubation period. In men, it usually ranges from two to five days. If women are affected by gonorrhea, the incubation period ranges from five to ten days. In some cases, it can last up to one month. Its duration is usually influenced by human immunity, concomitant diseases, taking medications. After the end of the incubation period, the first signs of the disease begin to appear in the infected person.

Symptoms of gonorrhea at an early stage in women often do not manifest. Approximately seventy percent of women do not experience painful or unpleasant sensations.

Recently, the percentage of asymptomatic course of this disease has increased. This is due to the fact that nowadays people often take antibiotics, as a result of which the biological properties of gonococci undergo changes. Taking small doses of antibiotics reduces their activity. However, the body is not cured of the disease. And if the symptoms of gonorrhea are clearly not visible, the disease continues to progress, more and more affecting the body.

Genitourinary organs, as a rule, suffer in the first place. The most common symptom is gonorrheal urethritis, characterized by inflammation of the mucocutaneous urinary organs. The first sign of the disease is a feeling of pain and burning sensation in the process of urination. After a few days, the symptoms begin to appear more sharply. There is swelling of the genital organs, there are purulent discharge, which are accompanied by an unpleasant odor. Then the discharge begins to acquire a more dense consistency, the urethra blushes, and sores appear.

In men, yellow discharge appears uncontrolled. The opening of the urethra becomes inflamed, and painful sensations arise. If you do not start treatment in time, the disease can spread to the prostate, testicles, and also seminal vesicles. Micturition occurs often and painfully, and can be complicated. The urine acquires a muddy shade, blood appears in it. Temperature can also rise.

The symptoms of gonorrhea in women are not so pronounced, therefore they are not always regarded correctly. So, for example, secretions of yellowish-white color are often taken for candidiasis (thrush). Pain associated with urination is associated with cystitis. Manifestations are also associated with frequent urge to urinate. Gonorrhea in women very quickly affects the internal organs. The main share is in the cervix. It becomes inflamed and swells, mucopurulent discharge is formed. In women, excretions, unlike masculine ones, are rarely seen with external examination. Often, women do not notice the symptoms of the disease and they do not go to the doctor immediately. Meanwhile, the neglected form of the disease gradually passes to the fallopian tubes and ovaries. If the treatment is not started on time, the disease can go into a chronic form, and this leads to ectopic pregnancy, complications during childbirth or infertility.

Even with the presence of characteristic symptoms, the diagnosis of gonorrhea is possible only in the laboratory when testing a smear for the presence of gonococci.
