Suzdal lakes: before and now

Suzdal lakes are a chain of three lakes, which are located in St. Petersburg, namely in the Vyborgsky district near the Poklonnaya Gora.

History

Once upon a time these lakes were a single reservoir of glacial origin, which bore the name of Parkola. There was a pine forest along the banks . During the Middle Ages there were Orthodox Karelian villages, whose inhabitants were engaged in farming. The middle of the XVIII century was marked by the fact that the lake passed into the private hands of Count Shuvalov. By this time it had already divided into three parts and received its present name in honor of Suzdal Sloboda. A hundred years later, a holiday village and a railway station appeared in this place . These objects are called Shuvalovo, and most of the village streets still bear the names of members of this family.

Description of lakes

The upper Suzdal Lake lies north of Poklonnaya Gora. Its depth reaches 11 meters. The length of this reservoir is 600 meters, while the width - 450 meters.

The average Suzdal lake is the smallest of the entire galaxy. Its length and width are 400 and 250 meters, respectively.

The Big Lower Lake is the largest in the group of the Suzdal Lakes. Almost 2 kilometers is the length of the lake and 600 meters is the width. In this reservoir, the Starozhilovka River flows from the north, and the Kamenka River flows into the west.

Fishing

Suzdal lakes are of great interest for fishing enthusiasts. The most fish place of all three reservoirs is the Upper Lake. Here there are roach, perch, gudgeon, bream, crucian carp and even pike. The best time for the catch is spring, summer and the end of winter. On the Middle and Big Lake you can also catch a big catch. Peak activity is observed mainly in autumn and winter. At this time on the lake you can catch a roach, scraper, carp, ruff, pike and perch.

What was before

Previously Suzdal lakes had good prospects for the development of recreational tourism in the area. A clean pond, a pine forest, picturesque hills - an ideal place to relax. Even a small steamer cruised along the lake. No wonder this place was nicknamed "Shuvalov's Switzerland". These beauties were admired by Alexander Blok himself. And during the Soviet period the artists of the Mariinsky Theater performed here.

Suzdal Lakes Today

Today Suzdal lakes are very popular among tourists. For this reason, the water in the pond quickly becomes very dirty, despite the fact that before the tourist season all the lakes are cleaned. Due to the large accumulation of debris, in particular glass bottles, it is forbidden to periodically swim in this place. Every spring new sand is brought to the beaches, and during the whole season it is cleaned, but on the beaches it is still very dirty. Infrastructure is scarce. On the beach there are urns, cabins for changing clothes, biotoilets, small shops and a boat station, which most of the time does not work.

Conclusion

Suzdal lakes have a huge potential for the development of a highly profitable tourist business. All that is required for this is to equip the beaches with benches, deckchairs, playgrounds. Many tourists will not even spare money to pay for their rest on a clean and well-equipped beach.
