Skinning tanneries, or, as the plant is called - tannins, grows in the south in Russia, as well as in the Mediterranean and the Crimea. You can see the scumbia in the Himalayas, and on the southern slopes of the mountains in China. The plant feels fine on soils containing even rocks, and therefore successfully grows in the mountains.

general description

Skinning is a very branchy shrub that can reach a height of 3 meters. Sometimes you can find a mackerel growing as a small tree with a neat rounded crown up to 5 meters in height. The bark of the mackerel is very decorative - grayish-brown, slightly flaky, and the shoots of the plant may be reddish in some varieties, which gives the scruples even more decorative. Leaves, depending on the variety, can be simple with a thin petiole or dentate, ovate. The main advantage of the scootie is small flowers, collected in large panicles scattered across the crown. Flowering in southern latitudes in one season can attack this plant many times. Skinning tannery in the suburbs bloom in mid-June. Fruits of the plant mature at the end of summer and are dry drupes.

Variety of varieties

In the culture, the tart leather is grown for a very long time and, it goes without saying that over the years many varieties and forms have appeared. Since the last century, they grow a scum creeping to strengthen the slopes, as well as weeping and red-leaved for decorative purposes. One of the most spectacular varieties is the Scootia green, the usual, which looks great both in group and single plantings in large gardens and parks. In our latitudes the scumia can reach 4 meters high, it develops well and blooms. The plant is not very frost-hardy, but still tolerates the climate of even central Russia. With a successful cultivation of the skimpy tannery in the suburbs, postponing the winter.

The shrub does not lose its decorativeness even after flowering, because thanks to the peduncles, which during the fruiting process strongly lengthen and are covered with bright red or white hairs, the scullie looks very beautiful and elegant. Thanks to this, it seems that a plant wore a wig or covered with a bright cloud consisting of fluffy reddish and pinkish tints. In this order the tree remains from June until November, and in some regions until December. From here also there were such names of a scum, as a wig or smoke tree. The foliage of the bush with the arrival of the first autumn days, too, changes color and gradually to coldness becomes crimson alternating with bluish, orange and metallic tones. In autumn, the scumia becomes the most important ornament of the garden, because the bush or tree literally flares up and attracts attention with its bright coloration.

About grades "royal purple" and "yang lady"

To date, the most common in European countries is the scullie of the tanning "royal purple", but, unfortunately, it is quite capricious. Very often this variety freezes to the height of the snow cover, and sometimes even to the roots. Because of this, the scrap of tanning royal purple in our latitudes needs a strong pruning of shoots every spring, and grows it more often in the form of bushes. The foliage of this kind is very decorative - bright, with a reddish-brown tinge, in the fall acquires a bluish tinge. "Royal Purple" is usually used for single plantings, as well as in mixborders. Very often, this variety is planted singly to arrange the color accents in the garden. In order to skim well, the leather "royal ash" hibernated well, it should be planted in sheltered places, with a high snow cover, and hilled for the winter.

About a dozen varieties are cultivated in the culture, of which the most common are the skimp of tanning "yang lady", grace and purpureus. The main difference between the varieties is not in flowers or in the shape and size of the bush, but in the color of the foliage. Skimpia is very decorative foliage and in some varieties in the autumn period the leaves get an orange-red hue or become bright red.

Cultivation

To plant the scull on the garden you should choose a sunny place, well warmed and protected from the winds. If the bush grows on a site where there is not enough sun, then its shoots will not have time to grow lignified and therefore will be strongly frozen in the winter cold.

This plant can reconcile with acidic soil, but still for the scum, alkali or calcareous soils are preferable. The earth must be airy, air-permeable, although this shrub also tolerates heavy soils. It is indispensible for scumia to strengthen the slopes that are prone to water erosion, and the plant will develop well even on rocky rocks. It should be noted that skimpia is poorly tolerated by stagnant water, and therefore, when choosing a site for planting, the stagnation of spring thawed waters should be avoided.

Trimming

Does it require much attention when growing a leather scullie? Care of this plant is the regular formation of the bush. Scumpia is a beautiful decorative plant for beginning gardeners, since it is almost not susceptible to diseases and pests. Annually pruning shrubs, removing frozen shoots, as well as weak ones. Strong pruning of bushes is carried out every two years in late spring, but in the period before the leaves bloom. Annual growth in severe pruning should be shortened by 2/3. Old scum bushes can be rejuvenated, severely cutting off shoots "to the stump." After such pruning, the bush will give a strong shoot and form a young globular crown, the leaves will develop well.

Scummy will delight you not only with its summer flowering. You can cut flowers, dry them and use them to compose winter bouquets. To gentle tender flowers of the scum are not crumbled, they can be sprinkled with hairspray.

Reproduction

The skimpie breeds with seeds or vegetatively. Seeds should be sown in the spring, sealing them in the soil to a depth of 2 cm. Seeds of scumia do not lose their germination for several years and have a laboratory germination of 35%.

For vegetative reproduction of scum, cuttings or layers, shoots are used. Vegetative propagation of this plant is very easy and simple - the branch is bent to the ground, slightly cutting the bark on it, pinned with a wooden spear and sprinkled with earth. After the formation of the roots, the young plant can be separated from the mother plant and planted.

Cuttings must be harvested at the end of June. Cuttings are planted in a greenhouse, and in the initial period of rooting, they should be watered or put in a mist-maker in the greenhouse. Rooting lasts about three weeks. Approximately one-third of the planted cuttings take root.

Reviews of gardeners

Try on your site or in the garden to grow a leather tart, which is sure to become your pride and favorite among garden plants. A bright outfit, unpretentiousness - all this makes this shrub a welcome inhabitant of any garden or park. According to the reviews of gardeners who have long been successful in growing scummery on their plots, it can be judged that this is a very unpretentious plant that does not require such painstaking daily care as a rose or lily. Your scumia will not need regular watering, except during periods of severe drought, and will ennoble your garden, make it rich and unusual.

Many gardeners and gardeners grow a snack because of its autumn decorativeness and advise everyone who loves the bright outfits of autumn nature, to plant this plant on its site.

Difficulties in growing

Scummy in its beauty and unusualness can compete with the recognized queens of the autumn ball - chrysanthemums, but it does not require such care and much attention. The only thing that can interfere with the full enjoyment of this plant is its low enough frost-resistant qualities. Many gardeners note that in the cold regions of the mackerel must be harbored for the winter and sometimes do a strong pruning in the spring. Strong pruning can damage the plant every year and weaken the flowering, and not every floriculturist decides to plant a scumbia for this reason.
