Japanese rose: photo, care

Eustoma grandiflorum, lysianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum) or Japanese rose room, is a herbaceous flower plant of the gentian family. Homeland of the flower is the southern part of the United States. It is here that the rose grows in natural conditions in the lowlands or on the slopes of rivers. The height of the plant reaches an average of 30 cm, and sometimes it can stretch up to 90 cm in height. The stem is branchy, the leaf is green with a grayish hue, the color of the inflorescence in the natural environment is violet or blue. In appearance , the rose Japanese is similar to the poppy flower. On one bush can develop up to 20 buds, and they bloom not immediately, but alternately.

A variety of eustoma

Breeders created a variety of varieties of eustoma: with white inflorescences, apricot, pink, yellow and even greenish tints. There are also varieties in which several representatives of the color scale are combined. Selection of this plant is very important in countries such as the United States and Japan. It was here that the Japanese rose (photo below) with a terry flower was deduced. Its inflorescence is no longer like a bell or poppy. Due to this, the plant experiences its second revival. It is very popular in European countries, Australia, America and Japan.

The natural color of the plant does not shine with variety. But thanks to the efforts of breeders to date, there is a huge number of varieties, which are characterized by a variety of not only the color scheme, but also the shape of the flower.

Varieties by the method of cultivation

The natural variety of the plant is very capricious, breeders managed to breed hybrids with fewer care requirements, for example:

  • Tall shrubs that are used in the design of the garden. These are varieties of "aurora", "echo", "flamenco" and others.
  • Low-growing. Grown up at home, in pots: LittleBell, "loyalty", FloridaPink, Mermaid and others.

By duration of vegetation

  • Annuals. They are easier to grow, because such a Japanese rose does not require special care, so most of these varieties are suitable for amateur florists.
  • Biannuals. More demanding to care, so they are most often engaged in professionals.
  • Perennials. They simply do not exist in nature, they are grown only in decorative pots.

According to the variety of a flower

  • The Kioto variety is characterized by a large, but non-marble inflorescence. Color palette: red, white and pink. Rapidly growing, happy with rapid flowering. Has an amazing color petals.
  • "Echo". The Japanese rose of this variety blooms profusely. Very tenacious plant, terry petals of different colors.
  • "Cinderella". Delicate flowers of pleasant color - lilac, white and purple. The variety belongs to a terry variety. Perfectly get along at home - in a pot and in the garden.
  • A variety with a medium flower, funnel-shaped and simple. The color scale is extensive. Small in height, which makes it possible to cultivate plants in pots.

Japanese rose - care of a plant

Beginner flower growers-lovers cultivate the eustoma as an annual. In order to achieve a repeat flowering, you need to remove the faded buds and properly care for the plant. And how, we will describe below.

Lighting

As for lighting, the plant prefers scattered light. With a direct hit of sunlight, brown spots can form on it - it is a burn, they can also be observed on the bud or leaf. If you plant a Japanese rose in the garden, then the area under it should be located in a semi-dark zone. If it is planted in an apartment, in a pot, then the room should be sufficiently moistened and well ventilated, otherwise the Japanese rose simply perishes.

Transfer

With a proper and proper care, the eustoma is experiencing the winter period very well. In the spring it must necessarily be transplanted, if the bush is very overgrown. Soil should be with normal acidity, nutritious and light enough. An important condition for transplantation is good drainage. And in order for the rose to feel more comfortable, it is recommended to add a small amount of fine sand to the soil.

Watering and top dressing

In the natural environment, the Japanese rose (eustoma) often grows on the banks of rivers and water bodies. But this does not mean that she likes high humidity. When growing in the room, frequent watering should be avoided. It follows from the degree of drying of the soil between the previous and the present watering. The water temperature should be room, it is strictly forbidden to water with cold water.

Fertilize the plant follows liquid mixtures and only during the growing season.

Possible problems in growing

Problems in the care and cultivation of plants can arise in the process of affecting the rose pests and diseases. A plant flower can be affected by a spider mite, whitefly or thrips. You can get rid of lesions by treating the bush with insecticides. As for diseases, the most common are fusariosis, mycosis and gray mold.

Reproduction of the Japanese rose

The plant reproduces exclusively by seeds, because it can not tolerate root integrity disorders. Consequently, the division of the bush is excluded. Cuttings do not give shoots and roots at all. The seeds themselves can be purchased at specialized flower shops or collected from their own plants, if they grow in the garden or apartment. Collect them is recommended from November to February. The Japanese rose blooms only on the 20th week, maybe a little earlier, after germination. Consequently, if you plant a plant in the spring, then this year it will blossom, delighting with the beauty and charm of blossoming buds.

Plant roses in the open ground should not be earlier than it will form 4-8 strong and healthy leaves. The procedure is carried out in the evening. After disembarkation, it is recommended to cover the seedling with a cellophane or a plastic bottle (cut from below) on top for about 3 weeks. The distance between each of the sprouts should be at least 15 cm. To achieve better branching, strengthened canes should be attached.

At first glance, caring for a Japanese rose seems laborious, but it's worth it. After all, the blossoming bud of beauty is in no way inferior to the traditional for most rosewood lovers of roses. In the bouquet, the eustoma looks amazingly beautiful, albeit a bit unusual.
