Siphon for sink with corrugated: characteristics, installation

Siphons for the sink are part of the sanitary equipment that connects the sink to the sewer. Its main functions are the protection of communications at home from clogging and the isolation of the premises from unpleasant odors. The design of nodes of this type is very simple, and therefore installed quite simply.

Types of siphons

Currently, there are only three basic types of such shell assemblies:

  • Bottle. This variety is popular mainly due to the ease of cleaning. Also to the pluses of the bottle siphon is that it is very easy to connect the dishwasher or washing machine.

  • Tubular. Nodes of this design on kitchen sinks are rarely installed. Most often such siphons are mounted in bathrooms. It's all about the design features. Being installed in the kitchen, such siphons very quickly become clogged and do not serve for a long time.

  • Corrugated. Recently, these models are becoming more popular. Their advantages include, first of all, the simplicity of the design. To collect a siphon for a bowl with a corrugation by own hands will not make special work. The best option for this model can be if the space under the sink is not too large.

Features of the design of the bellows siphon

Most often the corrugation with the siphon for the sink is made of white plastic. But sometimes on sale there are also metal models. This is a siphon conventional corrugated pipe with two docking nodes on both sides. That is, to the main advantages of models of this type, among other things, you can include flexibility. Siphon is not only easily bent. If desired, it can be stretched or, conversely, compressed.

As already mentioned, one of the main functions of any siphon is to delay the unpleasant odors coming from the sewerage. Siphon for the sink with corrugation (the photo can be seen on the page) is not an exception in this respect. In conventional models, this effect is achieved due to the presence of a knee in which a thick water stopper is formed. That's why pipe siphons are rarely used in kitchens. The bend is very small. Therefore, with the rare use of such a model, the water stopper simply dries up, resulting in smells beginning to flow into the room.

When installing a unit such as a siphon for a sink with corrugation, bending is done with special clamps in any convenient location and as large as necessary.

Which model to choose

Siphon for a sink with corrugated technical characteristics can have different. At its purchase it is necessary to pay attention first of all on such parameters, as:

  • Assignment of the node. Siphon should be designed specifically for washings and sinks.

  • The material used for manufacturing. Make modern siphons corrugated, usually either from polyethylene or polypropylene. Models made of PP are more expensive, but they last longer, because they are more durable and resistant to dirt and clogs.

  • The length of the siphon. This parameter is chosen based on the particular location of this particular shell.

Also, when buying a siphon, you should take into account such parameters as the diameters of the sink hole and the inlet to the sewer.

Site installation: preparatory work

Mount the siphon for the sink with corrugation using the following tools:

  • Screwdrivers. It is better to take the instrument thicker.

  • The gas key.

It is also necessary to prepare a bucket and a large rag.

Dismantling the old node

Remove the old siphon from the sink is quite simple. First unscrew the plastic nut and remove the pipe. Then the neck is removed. To do this, unscrew the screw inside the sink on the sink. It should simply be firmly held with a screwdriver and at the same time twisting the cone of the throat with a free hand at the bottom.

Under the sink, of course, you should first put a small bucket or put a thick rag. Sometimes, despite all efforts, it is not possible to unscrew the nut and screw. In this case it is necessary to break the mesh in the sink. Do this carefully, lifting its edges around the circumference upwards with a screwdriver, while trying not to scratch the enamel or steel surface.

Siphon for sink with corrugated: assembly

This operation is also very simple. Preliminary, a special gasket is placed on the edges of the sink hole. It is also desirable to smear this place with silicone. Further into the hole is inserted the neck of a new siphon with a mesh and screwed with the supplied screw. After it has been fixed, the corrugation itself is fastened to it with a nut.

In the kit with a siphon of this design, a special clamp must go. The corrugations are bent in the form of the letter N and these elements are fixed in this position. The result is a necessary "knee". At the next stage, the lower bell is simply inserted into the sewage pipe. Everything, a siphon for a sink with a corrug is established. It remains only to check the sink for leaks.

As you can see, the installation of a siphon with the corrugation provided that it is correctly selected - the procedure is relatively simple. Its design includes only a pipe, a neck and a yoke. The only difficulty that can arise during the assembly is the dismantling of the fastened neck or nuts of the old knot.
