How to sterilize cans: tried ways

How can I sterilize the banks so that the conservation work is not in vain, and have your workpieces successfully transferred the entire period of their storage? There are several ways: for a couple, in a saucepan, in a microwave and in an oven. Learn more about each of them to choose the method that best suits you.

Before you can sterilize the jars, they must be thoroughly washed with conventional baking soda and made sure the utensils are intact. The slightest cracks and chips will allow bacteria to penetrate into the preforms and bring to nothing all work. After washing, give the banks a thorough rinse.

How to properly sterilize the cans for a couple

This method was known to our grandmothers and was used when there were no microwaves or even gas stoves. In a large saucepan, pour water and cover it with a mesh. This can be a metal stand under a hotter than a suitable size, a special device for sterilizing cans with cutouts to fit the neck or a splash screen used for frying. When the water boils, the cans (not only cold ones) are placed over the steam and sterilized in this way.

There is no single answer to the question of how many banks should be sterilized, this depends on the volume of the dishes. So, for 0,5-0,75 liter containers it is enough and ten minutes, liter it is required 15, two-liter - 20, and three-liter - half an hour.

In the role of a steam generator, a kettle (not an electric one) can perform. After boiling, remove the lid from it, reinforce the jar in its place, and the process goes.

For this option, you need a saucepan of sufficient size. The jar is filled with water and placed in a bowl, pouring on the neck and outside. After boiling, the countdown starts. The terms of sterilization are the same as for the first method. This method is remarkable in that, together with the banks, it is also possible to decontaminate the lids.

How to sterilize jars in a microwave oven

In clean containers pour a little water and put them in the oven. For volumes up to a liter - it's about 2 cm, for large - the height of the layer is increased. Large banks that do not fit standing can be laid on their side, just as if filling a little with water. At the same time, they can not be closed with lids!

Next, turn on the microwave power of 900-1000 W for a period of 5 minutes for small and 7-10 for large jars. Watch through the glass, the water boils, at the same time, make sure that it does not boil away, otherwise the dishes will burst.

Sterilization of cans in the oven

This method allows you to sterilize many cans of any size at once. Also, iron covers are also processed with them. Freshly washed, still wet cans are placed in a warm oven with a bottom up on a grate or baking tray. Light the oven and bring the temperature in it to 150 degrees. The processing times are the same as for the pair.

Whichever way you use, take out the ready-made dishes, just put on the hands of kitchen gloves, otherwise the burn from the hot glass is provided. When sterile containers are ready, put the necessary ingredients in them and roll them up with treated caps.

How to sterilize full banks

In some recipes, there is a method of sterilizing cans already with preforms. The most common way is to boil them in a pot of water. To do this, a towel is laid on the bottom, a bank is placed on top of it and it is filled with water of the same temperature as its contents. The level of the liquid reaches the shoulders of the can, if it is poured more, when boiled, it will fall into the cans. To protect the dish from splashing, lay the lid on the neck (only do not close tightly).

The boiling time is different for each recipe, but basically it is the same as when sterilizing empty cans with boiling. After the treatment, take the dishes carefully with special tongs and immediately roll them up.
